💥 PSW’s Legislative (House) Week Nine Wrap Up 💥 Bills Introduced: 17 Resolutions Introduced: 24 Sent to Senate: 3 bills + budget bill Regulations Received: 5 Enrolled for Ratification: 1 (H.4216) - The House spent just over 15 hours debating and voting to pass the largest budget in state history, which increased state spending by 5.2% over the 2025-2026 budget. - In an unusual move, the House placed H.4216 on special order after passing the budget, which will result in 23% blue collar workers receiving a tax increase, and 35% seeing no change at all. The remainder will see a decrease.

📍Informed Voting Tip: Treat your ballot like a job interview. Would you hire a nanny just because she interviewed well and gave you a good feeling? No. You’d check their references. Look at their history. Ask specific questions and note whether their answers are concrete, because the stakes are too high to focus on how good they make you feel. Treat voting the same. Campaign messaging is professionally designed to make you feel something (hopeful, inspired, fired up, patriotic, protective). Those emotionally charged words exist for one reason ⇢ to get you feeling good enough to select them. But feeling good about a candidate isn’t the same as knowing what they’ll actually do. Before you vote, run the interview: ✤What’s your actual track record? ✤Where’s the specific plan? ✤Who’s funding you, and what do they expect in return? ✤What have you done that proves you’ll follow through? Feel-good messaging exists to get you to stop asking those questions. Don’t let it.

📍Has anybody actually read the bill? Not reading the bill before supporting it has become a bad habit. People latch onto legislation like it’s a fandom, blindly cheering it on without ever cracking it open to see what’s inside. All it takes is a catchy title and a strong political label (“the most conservative bill in the country!”), and people are all in. No questions asked. Even worse, some will straight-up admit they won’t read it and still defend it to the death. That’s what this writer calls accepting it “as is.” “As is” is a legal warning. It means what you see is what you get. No do-overs, no refunds, no exchanges. You take the deal, flaws and future regrets included. If you want to accept something as-is in your personal life, sure, go ahead and gamble. Buy that sketchy car off Craigslist. Worst case, it’s your mess to fix. But legislation? That’s a whole different beast. A bad law burns not just the people who cheered it on; it burns all of us.

Was this one of the main reasons for this (not so perfect) bill - - to warm up passing a medical marijuana bill? 🤔

Repeat: Another law won’t fix this when current laws already allow it. Think mandatory reporting laws, carve-outs, no enforcement, and protection for agencies. The PBR H4757 won’t stop this either. The root is in current law, government environments and subsidies that entice parents to place their kids out of the home and into spaces where stuff like this will keep happening.

🚨Hearing @ShaneMassey and @SCSenateGOP leadership are offering state senator Richard Cash and other social conservatives a "pathway" to get their votes on a TOTAL abortion ban in South Carolina if they play ball and advance the recently scuttled cannabis consumables bill.
