It was an honor to be at the Capitol today swearing in Michigan’s newest senator, Chedrick Greene. Looking forward to Standing Tall together and getting things done for Michigan.

For too many Michiganders, buying a home feels out of reach. There’s not enough housing and what is available is too expensive. Michiganders want action to make housing more affordable and attainable. Let’s come together to cut red tape, streamline zoning, and Build, Baby Build.

It was an honor to have @GovWhitmer at the Building Michigan Community Communities conference today to receive the Community Development Legacy Award, presented by the @CEDAMinfo for her administration’s historic investments in housing.

Housing costs are out of control. We need to build more homes in the places people want to live. That means clearing roadblocks, cutting unnecessary red tape, and making it easier to get shovels in the ground so families can find a safe, affordable place to call home.

Gov. @GretchenWhitmer at the MDP Legacy Dinner: "When times are tough, we get tougher. When leadership fails, we stay focused and fight back. When shit gets real, we get shit done."

Today, we broke ground on The William Schma House, an affordable place for Michiganders to call home and get back on their feet. This housing community will give Michiganders stability and support as they rebuild their lives and imagine a future filled with possibility.

Everyone deserves a shot at a place to call home. The time is now to cut red tape and streamline zoning so we can make it easier to build more affordable homes for all Michiganders.

I will declare a state of emergency for Branch, Cass, and St. Joseph counties following the severe weather. We’re working with emergency teams to monitor the situation and coordinate resources for those impacted. My heart is with the families who lost loved ones or were injured.

Red tape is keeping shovels from hitting the dirt. If we want to tackle our housing shortage head on, let’s: 🧾 Create a state-led affordable housing tax credit 🏗️ Demolish nonsensical construction requirements 🏡 Streamline zoning From there, we build, baby, build!

Michigan is the only state in the region without a state affordable housing tax credit. That's a problem we can solve. Let's build the homes we need, in the places people want to live, and put the American Dream back within reach for young people. Let’s do it.

We've got a problem: too much red tape keeps shovels from hitting the dirt. My solution: Improve zoning and building codes so we can build more homes faster (and for less money!)
