Mayor Mary Sheffield is expanding Detroit’s investment in affordable housing. A new Executive Order will direct 100% of proceeds from city-owned commercial property sales into the Affordable Housing Development and Preservation Trust Fund, more than doubling annual contributions to about $4 million. Led by the City’s Housing and Revitalization Department (HRD), the fund supports new housing, preserves existing units, and helps keep rents affordable for Detroiters who need it most. That means expanding access to safe, stable, affordable housing across our neighborhoods. The order takes effect July 1, 2026.
