Statement from Annie Farmer on meeting with Todd Blanche:
"After meeting with Todd Blanche, I feel even more confident in urging senators to vote against his confirmation as the United States' Attorney General.
"I found him abrasive, condescending, and intentionally noncommittal to survivors — a marked contrast to his public testimony during his confirmation hearing.
"While quick to point to the failures of previous administrations, he refused to take accountability for mistakes made under his own leadership. Specifically, he would not commit to an inquiry into why my sister Maria Farmer's 1996 report went uninvestigated; he refused to release documents related to internal discussions about charging Epstein that would provide important clarification about previous errors, and his explanations for his nine-hour interview with Ghislaine Maxwell and her subsequent transfer to a less secure facility were wholly dissatisfactory and contrived.
"His evasiveness felt like a deliberate attempt to claim the Attorney General's office is powerless in this matter. By passing the buck once again, he is leaving survivors trapped in the same endless loop of searching for answers and receiving none."

This desert aquifer took thousands of years to fill. It could be drained in decades.
Beneath the Mojave Desert lies the Fenner Basin, an ancient aquifer holding an estimated 17–34 million acre-feet of water. Some of it has been underground for more than 20,000 years, replenished only by rare desert rainfall, one drop at a time.
On July 9, the Bureau of Land Management approved a 50-year right-of-way letting a private company convert an old gas pipeline into a water pipeline, clearing the way to pump that ancient groundwater out and sell it to
Southern California communities and Arizona water agencies. The approval skipped the environmental review that's supposed to catch this kind of damage before it happens, not after.
Arizona needs it badly. The Colorado River, the water lifeline for 40 million people across the Southwest, just had its driest year on record. Arizona takes the deepest cuts of any state when shortages hit, already losing 18% of its allocation this year, so a company selling "new" water looks like a lifeline, even if that water is being pulled from a desert aquifer that took millennia to form.
That underground water also feeds Bonanza Spring, the largest water source for 1,000 square miles, inside Mojave Trails National Monument. It's sacred to the Chemehuevi and Fort Mojave tribes, and it's what desert bighorn sheep and the threatened desert tortoise depend on to survive out here.
This isn't the first time this exact plan has been tried. A nearly identical permit was thrown out by a federal court once before, for skipping that same required review. California's governor blocked the project outright in 2019.
Who's going to tell the desert bighorn sheep there's no water left because two states' water crises collided over the same ancient aquifer?
