@generalquixote absolutely. it also betrays an essentialist idea of historical technological progression as if certain technologies naturally develop within a given amount of time (& often theyre wrong lore-wise anyway). e.g. grrm does say that the andals used bronze. it’s not at all ‘stagnant’

@gale_winchester @DJProfessorL Wintertown is less populated in the summer because the vast majority of Westeros’ population are peasent farmers, just like in medieval Europe. Winterfell does have many servants/courtiers/men-at-arms/smiths etc, therefore many people do live at the castle

The most ridiculous part of GRRMs world building is how there are only 5 major cities in all of Westeros, King's Landing, Oldtown, Lannisport, Gulltown, and White Harbor. Everything else is just a castle, small town, village, a series of homesteads or just landmarks.

@Trey_Explainer they aren’t tiny villages, Gulltown is literally the largest settlement in the Vale while Saltpans is a town which was refused a charter to become a city by the pre-conquest river kings
