Today we're announcing LevelUp: a free, four-week training program that takes people with no prior experience and prepares them to work as fiber technicians on data center construction sites across the US. We built this program with CBRE because the fiber technician field, and the broader construction industry, is facing a nationwide shortage at a time when data center demand is higher than ever. How it works: 🔧 Classroom instruction, hands-on labs + team activities covering transferable technical skills 🎓 Graduates have the opportunity to work at Meta's US construction sites through our contractor network 🤝 Open to everyone from recent high school grads to mid-career professionals Since 2010, Meta's data center projects have supported 30,000+ skilled trade jobs during construction + 5,000+ permanent operational roles. LevelUp is about building the pipeline to keep that going. Learn more: go.meta.me/0eb3f6

Completely agree with Jensen! Not exporting AI out of fear is classic case where the cure would be 100x worse than the disease. You slow down innovation, progress and US technology and economic leadership in the foolish hope that you'll prevent an edge case that hasn't even proved to be dangerous. It’s like stopping exports of metal because it might help adversaries build teleportation machines.

The Jensen Huang episode. 0:00:00 – Is Nvidia’s biggest moat its grip on scarce supply chains? 0:16:25 – Will TPUs break Nvidia’s hold on AI compute? 0:41:06 – Why doesn’t Nvidia become a hyperscaler? 0:57:36 – Should we be selling AI chips to China? 1:35:06 – Why doesn’t Nvidia make multiple different chip architectures? @vhmth Don’t think it’s a matter of brainwashing or some sort of gripe against China. Just want to make sure that we are not giving up a national security advantage.

The interview between Dwarkesh and Jensen is exactly how I'd expect it to go from someone who has never been to or read much about China. Going there makes you realize how brainwashed the average US citizen is. We should be selling to the Chinese. We need them, and they need us. Blocking them out is naive.

Jensen’s argument is that China is too dependent on Nvidia to leave. That’s not a moat. That’s a grace period. China’s “Made in China 2025” strategy is explicitly designed to use foreign technology as a bridge to self-reliance - absorb it, reverse engineer it, then displace it. They’ve done it in solar, EVs, and telecom. CUDA is next. Look at ASML: if Jensen’s logic held, ASML should be flooding China with High-NA EUV machines to lock them into the Western lithography ecosystem before they build their own. Nobody thinks that’s a good idea.

@iroasmas Most companies under US export controls in the semi space have their revenue pinned up by China (despite the massive security risk). It’s swept under the rug to protect our glorious S&P500 gains.

dwarkesh: “wouldn’t selling nvidia chips to china enable them to train models like claude mythos with cyber offensive capabilities that would be threats to american companies and national security?” jensen: “what the fuck did you just fucking say to me, you little bitch?”

@dwarkesh_sp In defense of Dwarkesh: There’s a reason ASML doesn’t give their High NA EUV tools to China. If you give them those tools then they will use it as a bridge towards self-reliance and reverse engineer them. Jensen seems to be defensive in this bc he needs to grow revenue.

@niccruzpatane Jensen is right, stop exporting US chips to China wont stop China advancing to chip design and production, they will succeed in one way or another.

@niccruzpatane I think Jensen is overlooking the fact that China has a formal national strategy (Made in China 2025) to use foreign technology as a bridge towards self-reliance. Once they get access to the best chips, I wouldn’t be surprised if they reverse engineered them.
