Remember: The richest 1% evade over $160 billion in taxes every year. That amount would fund SNAP for a year with money to spare. Ask yourself who the real freeloaders are.

@Ameen_HGA We were living on her salary as a public school teacher, trying to live in the northern suburbs of Chicago. By God's grace, we made it through financially, but we did not finish our application for SSDI. We also would have qualified for SNAP, but barely.

@Ameen_HGA When I was going through seminary, I applied for Social Security Disability Income, because of my chronic health condition. As I was talking with a person at the Social Security office, we realized that my wife and I would either have to empty our savings to qualify.

The more and more I hear some folks talk about welfare --& how folks depend on it and don't want to work-- the more I see that none of these folks know how welfare works, been on it themselves or know anyone else who has. They're also not helping ppl that would need it either

TAPPING THE SIGN, AGAIN: The MAGA opposition to SNAP, HC, etc isn't about budget constraints ... it's about deciding who is worthy of mercy. Christ sees all as worthy of mercy and grace. MAGA does not. You can follow one or the other. Choose well.

The fallacy of course is that if society was “Christian” it would be Godly and just. Church history tells a different story. Christianity ruled the American South and it sanctioned American slavery and advanced Jim Crow. Whose Christianity matters…
Anthony Bradley@drantbradley

Doug Wilson has always been a Christian Nationalist. Desiring God & The Gospel Coalition amplified his views against many of our objections. We were ignored. Piper defended Wilson against the objections. If you didn’t object when Wilson wrote/spoke for DG/TGC, don’t object now.

2/ Friends, it was never about "putting Christ back in govt." It was always about power, money, and selfishness. May we make better choices, tomorrow. /ENDS

To recap, Trump: -Forced out the FAA chief at Musk's insistence -Imposed a hiring freeze that reportedly included air traffic controllers -Fired the TSA head and gutted a key aviation safety committee -Blamed the DCA crash on DEI This is disastrous leadership.

WATCH: “Instead of giving money to private schools that don’t take kids like me, please help public schools get better and fund them.” A 6th grader with cerebral palsy speaks out against the TEXAS voucher scam. (cc: @GovBillLee)

The freezing of federal grants, the firing of all inspector generals, the immunization of political violence - does everybody not see what’s happening? In a blitzkrieg, Trump is trying to collapse our democracy - and probably our economy - and seize control. Call it what it is.

A President is not a King, and a law is not a suggestion. Trump's illegal funding freeze is a Constitutional crisis.

Again, this is not legal. It is not within the president’s discretion to block funding that has been appropriated and directed by Congress. The president can veto spending but once it is signed into law, it’s law.

My phone has been blowing up over the past 10 hours like crazy. Nobody knows if this will affect Medicaid payments for tens of millions, student loans, grants to homeless shelters, disaster relief, veterans orgs and scores of other federal functions

#OTD 80 years ago, Auschwitz was liberated by Soviet troops. The Germans established the Auschwitz camp complex in the spring of 1940 in German-occupied Poland. About 1.1 million people were killed there, including about one million Jews. #HolocaustRemembranceDay

People want me to go back to where I came from. I’ve heard this all my life. Whether I remain silent or speak up about injustice and evil, it’s just in the water of much of American society. How do I go back to a country I wasn’t born in?

Charles McGee died in 2022 at the age of 102. He had been the last living member of the Tuskegee Airmen. Charles McGee was a career officer in the Air Force for 30+ years. He flew 409 missions, one of the highest combat totals and longest active-duty careers by any Air Force fighter pilot. The Air Force has stopped teaching about the Tuskegee Airmen, despite their distinguished military careers, contributions, and sacrifices. This is disrespectful to the memory of the Tuskegee Airmen, their family, and future Air Force pilots. Hey, it’s what President Felonious wanted. The whitewashing of Black History. Blacks for Trump, you voted for this racist. Nelly, you asked how is he a White Supremacist. What does he have to do next to make idiots believe he’s racist? Have a noose outside the White House. Public lynchings? #DemsUnited #BlackHistoryWithLana

“Eligibility does not mean access,” —as I said to @propublica The worst myth about school vouchers is that they allow families to choose—but the schools are still doing the choosing. Today’s lack of transparency is a willful effort to keep new segregation concerns under wraps
ProPublica@propublica

20 mostly white private academies, all founded in the 1960s and 1970s, brought in more than $20 million from North Carolina in the past three years alone. None reflected the demographics of their communities. Few even came close. propublica.org/article/segreg…

I get asked: where should education investments be, if not voucher schemes and subsidies? Short A) local communities. Longer A) GYO teacher pipelines, tutoring, school meals and wellness, early child ed, school infrastructure and tech, college & non-college pathways and more.
