Pitt spent nearly 6 months training in sword fighting, boxing, sprinting, and weightlifting, gaining around 10–15 pounds (4.5–7 kg) of lean muscle to resemble ancient Greek statues. While filming, he ironically tore his Achilles tendon during a battle scene, delaying production. Looking back, Pitt admitted, "I chunked that scene... I blew that scene. It could be better. I would love another shot at it." Ironically, many fans and critiques believe that the flatness actually works for Achilles in the film — a character who doesn’t care about anything except winning battles.
