@junkywax This guy kicked a first baseman as he ran through the bag. THREW HIS BAT at a third baseman and pretended it slipped out of his hand. Dirty slide into Dustin Pedroia that effectively ended his career. But yeah the hate is totally unjustified.

Yeah it’s more of an observation. These posts by “experts” read like satire. Actual players and coaches don’t know or care about this shit (watch the in-game interview with Snell where nobody knew what wRC+ was and neither did the broadcast crew). GMs that put onus on it are rare and not successful. It has its place somewhat but not to where it is now. Stat-nerd-fans that constantly talk or post about them sound ridiculous and make the game look bad to casual fans, imo.

I think I’m going to intentionally regress as a baseball fan. I was never supposed to know a hitters split numbers or the whiff rate of a certain pitch, or xBA & stuff. I’m supposed to drink precisely 7 beers & root for my guys. Going back to basics.

@coriumnoticer @Sxxxxrxxx319 @TigersJUK Errors dont really tell you anything about defense tbh. OAA is a great stat for range in infielders and outfielders, DRS is more situational like WPA, and FRV includes positional value and is a good overall stat for defensive value.

It’s so much fun watching this unfold. My premise that stats (especially defensive ones) are objective and taken way too seriously when a players value is being considered is being countered by a bunch of dorks who just keep referencing stats. -Runs -BA -OBP -Slugging % -Walks/K’s (maybe) -Errors That’s it. That’s the list guys. I’m glad I could help.
