@SteveOnSpeed @theficouple Asset’s produce income such as a rental property vs a primary residence that cost you utilities, taxes, repair and maintenance, interest etc. People love dismissing the total expense over the life of a mortgage and exclude it from their formula.

Never understood why some don’t count equity in a home towards net worth. If we own a $350,000 home and it has no debt against it? That’s $350,000 of equity. What are we missing here!?

@theficouple In my opinion, a primary residence is excluded because an owner pays for expenses. Yes, you have a paid off house but how much $$$ will you spend over the next 10 years on maintenance, taxes, utilities, etc. ? An asset isn’t meant to drain your bank account.

It’s hard to digest that a minimum wage salary can afford the mortgage payment on a 2.8% interest rate $500k home. Today a $100k salary can barely get approved for that.
