Having survived front-line combat during the Gulf War, Marine Corps veteran Anthony Swofford never imagined that, many years later, he would face the constant threat of gun violence right here at home as a university professor. And when the university was on the verge of being forced to allow guns on campus, Anthony knew he had to speak out. “I found veteran voices to be lacking in national gun safety conversations, and very few people understand the lethality of firearms as intimately as veterans,” he said. That’s when Anthony joined the @Everytown Veterans Advisory Council, a group of military veterans that provide advice and support to advance gun violence prevention work around the country. This Independence Day, honor Anthony and his important work by lifting his voice.

i wove flowers into my hair for my graduation reading. i walked to the library on the nature trail & the little girl behind me picked purple wildflowers, put them in her hair, & told her mom she wanted to look like me. it is one of the few good memories i have of that time 💜🪻

@Historian_Steve In West Virginia, the upper level admins are driving the process. Interestingly, they decided *not* to cut WAGS (WVU's gender studies dept), so I don't think it's a hidden GOP power play.

West Virginia. Texas. Florida. Is the pattern becoming clear that GOP politicians are deliberately sabotaging higher ed in red states? Because that's what it seems like. Will there be a brain drain? Will this further intensify the divide between red states and blue states?
