I think the crux of the argument in this instance is did the pass provide the positional advantage by forcing the rotation and close out, or did the positional advantage come from the slight pause before blowing by the defender. This is about as 50/50 as it gets for me.

The definition (according to the 2021-22 NCAA stat manual I found online) is that an assist (a) finds a player free after they have maneuvered w/o the ball for a positional advantage, or (b) gives the receiving player a positional advantage they otherwise would not have had.

Tough loss today at the WIT for Redmond but you certainly can’t fault @Wyatt_Horner08 one bit. The senior guard did his best and put the team on his back, putting up the most impressive offensive performance we’ve seen so far this season, posting 42 points and 11 rebounds.
