Very few wealthy people in South Africa are actually prepared to use their money to fix the country, this includes most politicians.

Today I start 34 radiation sessions over 7 weeks, every day except holidays. A bit nervous, but hopeful this will sort out the skin cancer so we can focus on fighting the bone marrow cancer. I feel good and it’s a beautiful day to begin. No Retreat. No Surrender. 💪

A 71-year-old woman and a 77-year-old man were murdered on a farm in Glen Loerie, The Crags, in what appears to have been a violent attack. According to reports, the incident came to light on Wednesday, 25 March 2026, at about 18:50, when a Mercedes-Benz was picked up by a licence plate recognition camera speeding along the R339 towards Uniondale. The vehicle was then flagged on a local security WhatsApp group, which prompted police to move quickly. When officers went to the address linked to the vehicle, they discovered the bodies of the elderly couple. Both had sustained multiple injuries. Police, together with community safety structures, then worked to trace the vehicle. It later overturned near Uniondale, and the driver allegedly tried to flee on foot before being caught shortly afterwards. A 34-year-old suspect from The Crags has since been arrested and is being held in Uniondale. He is expected to appear in court once charges are finalised, while the motive for the killings remains under investigation. This case is another reminder of how important rapid coordination is between residents, private security networks, technology and SAPS on the ground. The use of licence plate recognition technology, quick information-sharing and follow-up action helped move this case forward fast. That matters, especially in rural and farming areas where response times and access to support can be more difficult. But arrests are only the first step. There now needs to be a thorough investigation, proper evidence handling, clear communication with the family and community, and a prosecution process that is not delayed or weakened. Rural communities need to know that when violent crimes happen, the system will respond with urgency and competence. My thoughts are with the loved ones of the victims and with the wider Plettenberg Bay and Crags community. Anyone with further information is urged to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or use the MySAPS App. IC

@WandileSihlobo Fuel increases, increase prices immediately, fertilizer increases will hold those prices high after fuel drops

The rise in fertiliser prices worries us. But the idea that higher fertiliser prices will lead to HIGHER FOOD PRICES NOW is misplaced. Farmers can't pass costs directly to consumers. They unfortunately can only manage them by reducing plantings. But this is not the case. The food products we have on shelves and will have for months were planted months ago. We have plenty of supplies in South Africa. So people must not abuse this period and hike retail food prices massively. South Africans are already under pressure. We will be watching food prices closely at the Presidential Envoy’s office.

Iran 🇮🇷 has announced that South African 🇿🇦 cargo ships and oil tankers will be granted safe passage through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, even as restrictions remain in place for vessels linked to the United States and Israel. According to Iran’s ambassador to South Africa, Mansour Shakib Mehr, the move reflects the strong diplomatic relationship between Tehran and Pretoria. He emphasized Iran’s willingness to cooperate with friendly nations to ensure secure maritime transit despite ongoing regional tensions.

FUEL SUPPLIES, AGRICULTURE, AND PANIC BUYING CHALLENGES Understandably, some stakeholders may want to buy more fuel now, before any notable increases in April. Still, we must avoid stockpiling, as this short-term artificial demand may cause temporary supply friction in some areas. Generally, fuel supplies remain healthy in the country, but there may be unusual demand ahead of April price adjustments. It is for this reason, amongst other things, that one may see reports of supply disruptions. Ideally, a normal buying pace would help immensely. Fuel accounts for a notable share across various agricultural value chains, and harvesting and planting are the periods of highest use. For example, fuel accounts for roughly 13% of the grain farmers’ input costs. Farmers will start planting winter crops from the end of April in the Western Cape and later in other provinces. Farmers will also start harvesting grain in May, and citrus around the same time. These are high-fuel-use periods and will put immense financial strain on farmers. We also transport 80% of our grains by road, which adds immense costs to agribusinesses, and we transport various agricultural products by road. At the moment, we face cost challenges and fewer general supply constraints across most of the country. This adds a strain on businesses. The availability of fertiliser supplies is the same: we have normal supplies and don’t foresee any supply challenges in the near future. All said and done, the cost pressures on the farming sector remain a considerable concern. -Wandile Sihlobo Presidential Envoy on Agriculture and Land
