@mattcrotts Now that I think of it, the current, erroneous narrative has been actively robbing me of my own memories. The joy of seeing such buildings in my youth in all their original, dazzling glory.

Glad this is being discussed.

There's a common misconception that Brutalist buildings were unpainted, but thanks to microscopic analysis of the exteriors we can now recreate what they looked like in their prime.

@BradfemlyWalsh Holidaying with family friends as a mummy obsessed 9yo, excited before my first ever visit to Adelaide Museum's Egyptian gallery. Surprise letter from Dad arrives. In it a blackened toenail he'd just shed, and a note instructing me to leave it with the ancient remains.

My dad is a massive cricket fanatic and was once in the televised background shot of a tense cricket match at Trent Bridge, seen picking his nose so laboriously and lengthily that multiple sports commentators joked about it live on air.

Zack Polanski and the Green Party are trending for all the wrong reasons.
I have consistently warned about his divisive brand of politics from when he first stood for leader last year.
He has actively courted Islamists, not just as voters but as candidates.
The particular blend of authoritarian no debate within the party alongside groupthink identitarian cancel culture presents an existential threat to democratic politics.
Once Islamist politicians gain a mainstream foothold the country will become unrecognisable.
Yesterday two candidates in London were arrested under Section 19 of the Public Order Act and taken into custody for questioning.
The Green Party was providing them with a safe haven to platform their antisemitic bile and did absolutely nothing to address publicly evidenced concerns.
Yesterday the Met Commissioner took the unprecedented step of calling out Polanski for siding with critics of his police officers putting themselves in harms way to protect Jews.
The Jewish community is under seige like never before. This is the time to stand shoulder to shoulder with them in so many ways.
The electorate must send a message loud and clear that, in its current incarnation of eco-free antisemitic Islamist populism, the Green Party is part of the problem not the solution.
Do not vote Green on Thursday. Boycott the Green Party. There may be a tiny handful of candidates who have publicly denounced their party's antisemitic turn, but without that assurance the answer must be no.

@Normanjam67 Islam is a religion.
Turkism is a political project.
Anti-Turkism is not islamophobic - and yet a push to reverse the Turkification of Istanbul/Western Anatolia, while considering no reversals anywhere else, would almost certainly be construed as so.
Hope this helps.

@havivrettiggur Progsplaining is a thing. And the capacity to dispense it owes a lot, I think, to soft bigotry.

There's nothing quite like the arrogance of a Westerner who thinks "intifada" only means one thing -- and conveniently, it's the thing that most validates their politics and prejudices.
Intifada is a complex term, yes, but it nevertheless usually, when used in Arabic, refers to violence.
I don't mind the ignorance. It's the pairing with self-righteousness that makes it all so annoying.
Jewish blood is spilled, and their response is to engage in a delicate sussing out of the subtlest, most elitist, least actually relevant on the ground meanings of "intifada."
Katie Halper@kthalps
@jk_rowling @zarahsultana Admitting you don’t know what intifada means but saying “at least I know what useful idiot means” is not the own you think it is.

If anyone deserves to live to 100 it’s this man watch & enjoy
To celebrate David Attenborough’s 100th birthday, a special 90-minute event will air live from the Royal Albert Hall on Friday 8 May at 8.30pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
Hosted by Kirsty Young, the programme honours one of the most influential figures in broadcasting and natural history storytelling.
Kirsty Young said: “Sir David’s gift to the world has been a life spent exquisitely revealing Earth’s wonders to us all. The very least he deserves is a big 100th birthday bash at the Royal Albert Hall! I’m very happy indeed, as the host, to be able to invite everyone to the party.”
The event will take audiences on an extraordinary journey through a century of exploration and discovery, reflecting David’s remarkable life and work. It will feature iconic moments from the BBC’s natural history archive, live orchestral music, and appearances from well-known voices including Liz Bonnin, Steve Backshall, Chris Packham and Michael Palin.
With performances inspired by landmark series such as Planet Earth, Blue Planet and Frozen Planet, the celebration brings together music, storytelling and breathtaking wildlife imagery to honour a truly legendary career.

What was entirely missing from the platitudinous reactions of leading Greens yesterday was both anger and urgency.
That's because they want to deny the direct linkage between obsessive pro-Palestinian campaigns, especially since Oct 7th, and the demonstrable, exponential rise in antisemitic attacks and hatred in UK over the last two & half years.
For to show anger would be to acknowledge this connection & their contribution to it.
I've never felt so ashamed of what the Green Party has become. It takes a particularly warped worldview & bad faith emotional maladjustment to put political opportunism ahead of combating anti-Jewish hatred that you claim to care about.
Here's what I wrote in @spikedonline just 3 days ago:
‟The almost daily revelations about the antisemitic bile, whether historic or recent, perpetrated by a slew of its local-election candidates are testament to how far the Greens have fallen.”
I cannot shake off the feeling that had a group of Green Party canvassers, the ones voting for "Zionism is racism" motions, come across Shafiq Rahman, the antisemitic Slough assailant of last week, they would have done precisely nothing.
The news of the Somali cultural identity of yesterday's murderous attacker, too, will fall on Green Party deaf ears because it does not fit our open borders kumbaya liberal narrative.
Jews need to know that each and every British citizen would potentially put themselves in harms way, without hesitation, to defend our neighbours' rights to go about their everyday lives without fear of intimidation or attack.
Solidarity with our Jewish neighbours. 🙏 And know that we are angry on your behalf at the intolerable predictably of what is unfolding.
