@PAVS2016 @lubvvv @DomerDan619 @JomboyMedia The rule book doesn’t seem to account for the situation where a ball is partially “on or over” fair territory and partially “on or over” foul territory. The text doesn’t say the ball needs to be “completely on or over” in either case. Seems to be at least a little complicated.

@craignunley @lubvvv @DomerDan619 @JomboyMedia It's actually not that complicated. The same rule book defines a Foul Ball, which no one seems to be reading. "A FOUL BALL....or that, while on or over foul territory, touches the person of an umpire or player" The ball was both on and over foul territory. The ump messed up.

Here is the Fair Ball entry that appears in the Definition of Terms section of the MLB Rule Book. The blue highlighted text is the part that has the “on or over” wording that seems to say the ball would be fair if part of it was above the chalk. The orange highlighted text which has the “not merely over” wording seems to be in a paragraph about fly balls, which doesn’t apply to the play in question. An interesting question that this raises is what would happen if a ball comes to rest touching only foul territory but hanging over fair territory and no one touches it? The “on or over” part of the definition depends on a player or umpire touching the ball.

@JomboyMedia If any part of the ball is "on or over" fair territory (including the chalk line), it is ruled fair. It does not matter if the ball is physically touching the dirt in foul territory as long as a portion of the ball "hangs" over the line.

@lubvvv @DomerDan619 @craignunley @JomboyMedia This is from the official, 2026 rules: "When in contact with the ground, a ball must be in contact with fair territory and not merely over fair territory in order to be adjudged to be fair."

I asked grok and here’s what it said (I did not verify any of this): Framber Valdez would be the better overall fit. His superior durability (consistently 190+ innings), elite ground-ball rate (58.6% vs. Suárez’s 48.6%), and lower HR/9 make him ideal for eating innings and limiting damage in a park prone to homers. Additionally, Orioles GM Mike Elias has a personal scouting connection to Valdez from 2015, which could ease integration. While Suárez offers better command, youth, and a lower price tag, his injury history and lower innings output introduce more risk for a team needing reliable ace-level production. Valdez’s postseason pedigree also aligns with Baltimore’s win-now window, even if it comes at a higher cost.

🚨 Huge victory for @DefendingEd against Olentangy Schools: the 6th Circuit says public schools can’t use “anti-harassment” policies to force students to use classmates’ preferred pronouns, ruling it violated the First Amendment.
