@bootsa22 Yes, the GK is definitely playing higher in possession. Some genuinely play the extra man at the back better than others. Defensively, the ‘sweeper keeper’ terminology has been around for a while but IMO very few GK’s understand the detail with which to play it effectively.

See, this is what I never understood Crawls...sweeping behind the defence has always been a part of a GK’s role. So my question is, why now is ‘sweeper keeper’ used to describe an action that has always been expected of GKs? Is it more to do with when in controlled possession?
