Da kommen sie nie drauf! 😀 Alle zwei Wochen kommt „geschultes Personal“ und zählt die toten Vögel in einem Umkreis von 50–100 m um das Windrad. Die Spitzen dieser Windräder werden bis zu 300 km/h schnell. Das katapultiert einen Vogel problemlos hunderte Meter weiter. Und wissen Sie, wie lange ein toter Vogel in der Natur liegen bleibt? Überhaupt nicht! Der Grund dafür ist, dass in dem Moment, in dem ein Vogelkadaver herumliegt, jeder Fuchs, Wildkatze, Luchs, Wiesel, Ratte, Raubvogel usw. das mitkriegt und ihn schnell auffrisst, bevor es jemand anderes tut. Wenn man alle zwei Wochen Vögel unter einem Windrad sucht, findet man die extrem wenigen Fälle, die von dem Vogelschredder nicht weit weg geschleudert wurden und die durch reinen Zufall von keinem Aasfresser entdeckt wurden. Ein komplett sinnloses Unterfangen, um Fake-Zahlen zu generieren, mit denen man Grüne beruhigen kann. Man könnte vollkommen problemlos die echten Zahlen mit einer Kameraüberwachung ermitteln. Wesentlich weniger aufwändig, günstiger, vollautomatisch und absolut präzise. Aber das will keiner.

@AdrianP_doc Yes they are. That's why they pump out endless movies where they portray themselves as heroic (and supplement with superhero movies for those who don't buy the first kind of propaganda) - because in real life they are anything but.

@DrunkRepub People who make heroes out of *actors* deserve to be disappointed. There is a reason it as a profession was a half-step above prostitution for centuries until early 20th century! Why would you value opinions of someone who pretends for a living???

One reason so many dudes are mildly obsessed with ancient times is because so many of their modern-day heroes turned out to be woke douchebags. I mean this guy played Han Solo and Indiana Jones but in reality is more like Elizabeth Warren. If you value morality, truth, and decency the modern world, and its spokespeople, have very little to offer. So you look backward. Sure most people died before they were 30, but they knew they were owed nothing from anyone and they could damn sure tell you what a woman was.

After Appomattox, Robert E. Lee tried to go home. He couldn't. While he was off losing the war, a Union quartermaster general named Montgomery Meigs, a Southerner by birth who had stayed loyal to the Union and personally despised Lee after losing his own son in combat, seized Arlington estate over $92.07 in unpaid property taxes. (Mrs. Lee had actually sent an agent to pay. The agent was refused at the door.) Meigs then did something brilliantly cruel. He ordered Union dead buried as close to the front porch as possible. The point wasn't burial space. The point was making the house unlivable for the Lees forever. It worked. That front yard is now Arlington National Cemetery. So Lee, the most famous man in the South, drifted. Lived in a rented house in Richmond. Hid out at a friend's cottage in the country. In June 1865 he wrote to President Andrew Johnson asking for his citizenship back. Ulysses S. Grant personally endorsed the application. On October 2, 1865, Lee signed the required Oath of Allegiance and sent it to Washington. A State Department clerk filed it in the wrong folder. Lee never knew. He spent his last five years as president of tiny, broke Washington College in Lexington, Virginia, where he created the country's first college journalism program, one of the first college business programs, and a one-sentence honor code ("every student be a gentleman") that still runs the place. In public he preached reconciliation. In private, asked to denounce the Klan, he refused. Testifying to Congress in 1866, he said it would be better for Virginia "if she could get rid of" its Black population. He died on October 12, 1870, of a stroke. Officially, still not a U.S. citizen. His son sued for Arlington and won. U.S. Supreme Court, 5 to 4, in 1882. The family took $150,000 in 1883 and let the graves stay. The lost oath sat in a drawer for 105 years. An archivist stumbled across it in the National Archives in 1970. Five years later, on August 5, 1975, President Gerald Ford signed a joint resolution restoring Robert E. Lee's U.S. citizenship, retroactive to June 13, 1865. By then, the man had been dead for 105 years, buried beneath a chapel he built himself, in a Virginia mountain town nobody outside the state could find on a map.

@MarioNawfal I met a black bear on a hike once. I figured, with all the blackberries around, it wouldn't be interested in a human stinking of metal and chemicals. I froze in place and it walked up the slope about 10-12 feet ahead of me and never even looked at me.
