Right. Live service. Just like how Anthem was shut down after it flopped. So now people lose money and can’t get it back.

Hideaki Nishino, President of Sony Interactive Entertainment, said the company still sees potential in live-service games and wants to keep working in this area. “we want to continue to challenge ourselves in this area,” showing that Sony is not giving up on its plans for online games. The company wants to create games that have strong communities, regular updates, and reasons for players to keep coming back.

@HiddenEmpireOnX I’m working on a game myself and this is the exact disclosure I’m gonna have on mine. People are going to make their assumptions themselves. It’s the unfortunate reality but if a game does well and people talk about it, it’ll get its dedicated community.

One interesting thing is that the unsympathetic replies further cement the reason I made the original quote post here. Things that AI touched in our game: * A handful of in game paintings and murals * Steam capsule art Things that are made solely by us or purchased from other artists/programmers: Everything else * Models * Textures * VFX * Characters * Animations * Materials * Landscape * Sky * Code

As one of a tiny 2 person team working in our spare time to make an ambitious game like Hidden Empire, I agree with @TimSweeneyEpic here, because I think the merits of the game's quality should speak for themselves. Regardless of Steam's AI disclosure rules, however, that will ultimately be the case. Eventually people will get bored of crusading about this issue and the games that developers put actual effort into, regardless of whether they use AI to accelerate the process or not, will succeed and the low effort slop will fail.

Just to be clear: I don't support China or the CCP, and I don't hate democracy. I'm just pointing out the current reality. Chinese AI companies are building open source for everyone, while the US government and tech giants are trying to monopolize it and exploit people. The second China stops supporting open source, I'll criticize them too. I don't side with communism or capitalism. I only support open source for all of humanity. Open source must win.

I may go on a rant about AI, but I'll keep this one short. AI isn't going to make worse games because people who know how to make good games can do it with or without AI. The problem is, the people who can't make good games are going to be able to "fake" it a lot easier and a lot faster. It is already extremely difficult for small studios or individuals to get visibility for their game. Like the old saying, find a needle in the haystack. This will hurt indies in the long run more than anything else. People who have large budgets to market the game? Not so much. The only way to get visibility is to have an established brand or a lot of money. Those pushing it are not because they believe in it, it's because they are early in the gold rush and want that gold. They do not care about market stability in games, employment, and so on. The greedy mouse who wanted another piece of cheese eventually gets caught in the trap.

alright, ornith-1.0-35b is going on the dgx spark tonight. i keep seeing people talk about this one, so i’m curious now. supposedly it’s putting up crazy numbers for a 35b moe, and r/localllama is already making noise about it. benchmarks are cool, but i want to see the part that actually matters: does it feel good to use locally? does it code well? does it earn a spot in my stack? we’ll find out.
