Working with Parents in Sport@_WWPIS
The Sky Sports Crew joined us at Charlton Athletic on Monday to film our live session with parents and carry out interviews with club staff, parents and ourselves as part of an upcoming documentary on football academies.
A huge thank you to the Sky team and Simon Williams at @LFEonline for facilitating this incredible opportunity to highlight our work.
There is so much positive work going on in academy environments on a daily basis up and down the country and it was great to see part of this play out live in front of the cameras.
The challenge for any academy environments is that if the sole success criteria is a professional player at the end of it, or indeed that that is the only success criteria for parents and their children, we are going to end up with so many disappointed people. This is in no way being negative either.....
Creating wonderful environments and opportunities for young people to grow as people as well as players so they thrive in whatever environments they end up in is absolutely key and whilst it may sound cliche, for all families it should certainly be about enjoying the experiences and the journey in the now. Sadly, we don’t have ‘Crystal Balls or Magic Formulas!’
