What’s strangest about Crimson Desert is that even though it uses that classic Korean MMO-style female character design, they covered up all the outfits. This is basically the official successor to Black Desert, and it feels like they were way too conscious of Western sales. In Korean MMOs, that kind of censorship would never normally fly. That was honestly one of the game’s biggest strengths, too.

The idea that gamers can somehow refuse DLSS 5 is pretty funny. When the RTX 50 series launched, everyone pointed out that it was barely any faster than the 40 series in real terms, and that the only real difference was MFG. People called it trash. And yet the 50 series ended up becoming one of the best-selling product lines in history. When people buy products from a company that leads the technology, they are not leaders themselves, just followers.

@pahkevalu38862 I just wanted the exact same story, but they’re calling it a sequel to the old FF7.
English

@Pirat_Nation Well, that doesn't really seem enough to justify a game that cost hundreds of millions of dollars.

Koreans do not like Crimson Desert’s story either. The reason really isn’t that complicated. Most Korean video game studios come from an MMO background. MMO players usually do not care much about story and tend to skip it all, so for a long time most Korean developers never seriously tried to improve that side of their games or treat it as something important. As a result, Korea simply does not have much of a tradition of strong game writers or narrative designers. Storytelling is something Western studios have spent years steadily developing, but for Korean studios making single-player games, it is still unfamiliar territory.
This game handles every cutscene like a typical MMO. It honestly makes me wonder whether environmental storytelling even exists in it at all. Still, those dumb, Korean period-drama-influenced performances can be pretty entertaining... sometimes.

No, that's because Oblivion Remastered isn't a new game. It's basically the original game still running underneath with Unreal assets layered on top. It wasn't rebuilt from scratch, it's just a graphical upgrade. That's why existing mods can still work, and why all the same bugs are still there.

No matter how Modern Warfare 4’s campaign turns out, one thing the entire world can agree on is that this damn woman better not show up again. There was zero reason for her to return in MW2 or MW3, but Activision clearly decided the game ‘needed’ a woman no matter what. And they completely butchered the story because of it.
Don’t even get me started on Laswell’s pointless 5-minute campaign segment. The original MW trilogy had a perfect campaign without a single female character, and it was still GOAT-tier.
This forced DEI checklist kills immersion, and Korean players absolutely hate it.

@ChibiReviews Why does he keep obsessively checking this? At first I thought it was just algorithm paranoia, but it looks more like he's trying to confirm he exists. Could be some kind of depression.

@AI_EmeraldApple This will be one of the rare games where critic scores and user reviews actually line up.

My updated impressions of Crimson Desert...
The story isn't just mid. It's basically MIA, with the quests only there to facilitate exploration and introduce you to gameplay mechanics.
It is not the Witcher 3, or breath of the wild, or even where the winds meet.
Crimson desert is a true sandbox where you explore the world, do crazy things, and have punchy combat.
Is it enjoyable? Yes, but only if you like that kind of completely open-ended sandbox experience.
My main complaints remain the controls, which still feel laggy after the update, and the UI that still needs work.
The game should also have had a character creator so that you can create your own character instead of playing Kliff, who has the personality of a potato.
Other than that, the game is great. It feels like playing a completely insane, chaotic game where you can go from riding crazy mounts to doing feats that are impossible in other games.
I don't think the game will ever breach 248k peak players, as it is a hardcore sandbox; it is not most players' cup of tea.

@StarfieldGame You've ignored Korean gamers' localization requests for 20 years. It's honestly surprising that you didn't even consider adding more language support when releasing on PS5.

In the first new Trackers Alliance mission released last week, The Widow, you'll investigate a series of unexplained deaths casting a shadow over Neon.
All five new Trackers Alliance missions are free for players who have purchased The Vulture!

@curatorgamingx I can say with absolute certainty that it’s impossible.

If Starfield scores a 88-96 on PS5 will you people admit you were wrong about it? #Starfield

@videotechuk_ Western studios do not work on weekends under any circumstances...

@Pirat_Nation I’m more interested in the news that GTA 6 might run at 30 FPS than stuff like this.

@Grummz Any other company would act the same way if their stock dropped 40%.

ChatGPT only showcasing 5.3 Instant and 5.4 Thinking makes for a genuinely confusing UI. They've buried the legacy models so deep that it ends up feeling like user choice has actually been reduced, and the difference between 5.4 and 5.3 isn't presented clearly enough either. It's messy and confusing.

I'm concerned that Western gamers seem more willing than Koreans to embrace this bad MMO-to-single-player slop. The game clearly has sections designed to artificially pad playtime, which is an obvious case of MMO design being shoved into a single-player game, and defending that kind of design will only accelerate the overall decline of video games

I really hope Modern Warfare 4’s campaign finally goes all-in on scale. It’s likely going to be the first title to leave PS4 and Xbox One behind, so there’s no excuse for another small-brained story where everyone loses their mind over one missile. Show an actual large-scale war for once, not another fake high-stakes conflict dressed up like some idiotic American/British TV drama.
