@Acyn Texas isn't just red; it's hateful red. Talarico is a decent person, and a good candidate. Paxton is reprehensible. TX will vote for Paxton by a 20 point margin. Bookmark this.

Paxton: My opponent is the most extreme radical the Democrats have ever nominated. He's even running a vegan campaign, whatever that is. Others refer to him as Low-T Talarico.

@Acyn But like Low T? That one probably would make even Trump cringe. Just call him Radical Rico and call it a day. It’s a matter of time before Paxton is called Pedophile Pardoner for the recent release in TX

@Acyn I wonder what backstage is like at Fox News. Like do these people actually get along? I have a feeling they all get along perfectly and are playing characters on camera.

Watters: You're going to have to unlock some money. Now, it's not like sending pallets of cash over there like Obama did. It's basically just unfreezing some of their accounts. Jessica: I love the cope from Jesse about the money that would be released to the Iranians, denying the fact that it was their money being held in Qatari bank accounts when Obama did it

@Reuters The trick to selling EVs is that they have to just be good looking cars. Not "different" like whatever the hell this is.

@DavidPoland @edgarwright @MatthewACherry I was at one of the last mega lines in l.a. cinema history: harry Potter and the deathly hallows part 1 at the Chinese. That was before the imax renovation and assigned seating.

@crookeddy @edgarwright @MatthewACherry I remember a lot of weekend sell outs. That scene at the box office was madness. And then the waiting lines around the sides on the 2nd floor. I don’t miss the lines. The Grove in its first years too. 4 Star Wars lines wrapping around the fountain.

@crookeddy @edgarwright @MatthewACherry That screen was okay. Wouldn’t go for great. Bev Center was the poster child for tiny rooms and for terrible angles, even though it was built from scratch and not split like crap GCC splits

I don’t know you or your history with Westwood, but a lot of what happened to the Westwood night life scene was caused by the voters living in the area working against the night life scene, particularly after the gang shooting about 30 years ago. Demand is a complex thing. Westwood was overscreened for a while. But now it is seriously underscreened, as the entire westside really is. A major issue in Westwood is parking, as is true around a lot of former theaters. But home owners didn’t want all those people coming to their neighborhood and blocked a number of projects that assured the demise of Westwood as a cultural center, also killing the once thriving restaurant and bar scene. This all happened before COVID. And don’t forget the Landmark on Pico, which is still unused space, but whose lease was raised beyond viability even though the theater was very popular. Santa Monica is also a shadow of what it was, though I would put that on the homeless invasion and the dying of brick & mortar curing COVID, meaning less foot traffic, fewer theaters and restaurants, and now, some of the worst theaters in town, making it even worse. The Arclight and The Grove and The Chinese/Chinettes and the El Cap all thrived though close together. All offered decent parking and other activities nearby. The Burbank cluster is also very popular… with parking and restaurants. And Century City. LA movie culture is very different than suburban movie culture. We’ve lost some great bodies theaters. But it’s just what it is. Wish there was a better answer. I truly hope the Arclight reopens, with the dome. But I still have no idea why it hasn’t happened sooner, making the likelihood suspect. Beverly Center was a terrible theater and the Bev Connection was mismanaged into its own oblivion.

@DavidPoland @edgarwright @MatthewACherry Arclight owners got everything they've been asking for (liquor license that won't expire) so they might actually open this time. Westwood village sucks so I'm surprised even the regent survived. Surely they'll be out of business soon leaving only the part time Fox.

@DavidPoland @edgarwright @MatthewACherry The Fox is coming back for revivals programmed by the Cinametheque. The ipic is now closing. Rumor is there will be a new host there, but nothing is official. Arclight will reopen - they were approved for a liquor license at last.

Don't forget... the Fox/Village and Bruin in Westwood are also closed... and the Festival is repurposed and the National was demolished, as was the Mann Plaza. The Landmark Westwood is the only one left. Plus, just south of Wilshire the iPic, formerly the AVCO and GCC, is closing. The UA is long gone (2002). Add on... the Crest (formerly Pacific then owned by Disney) is a UCLA live stage theater now. AND 3rd Street in Santa Monica is a shadow of it's former 3 multiplex glory. Not to mention Beverly Center and Beverly Connection, which each had a multi. The Arclight in Hollywood was Premium Screen with premium pricing and still hugely successful before IMAX and Dolby and others became widely offered in multiplexes. Even very close to The Grove and The Chinese and Chinettes. It made people happy. It was a social experience. You always ran into friends and acquaintances and enemies. And that is before we celebrate the Cinerama Dome itself. Very sad. And unnecessary. And I'm not even mentioning the theaters in LA with major parking issues shutting them down.
