𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝟏𝟒/𝟑𝟎: 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐟𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐠𝐮𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐨 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐭. Communities don’t always become quiet because people lose interest. Sometimes, they’re simply tired. I’ve noticed it happen after weeks of back-to-back activities, constant pings, daily tasks, and announcements that never seem to slow down. At first, people participate in everything. Then they start skipping a few activities. Before long, even your most active members become less consistent. That’s community fatigue. One thing I’ve learned is that members don’t need something happening every single day. They need a reason to come back when something does happen. A few things that have helped me avoid burnout in communities: ➙ Creating activities people genuinely enjoy instead of filling the calendar just to stay busy. ➙ Giving members time to breathe between major events. ➙ Paying attention to participation patterns instead of assuming silence means people don’t care. ➙ Asking for feedback when engagement starts to change. A community shouldn’t feel like another full-time job for its members. People have work, school, family, and other responsibilities outside the project. The more you respect their time, the more likely they are to keep showing up over the long term.
