You know who I feel sorry for? Federico Chiesa. Chiesa has shown his talent and quality over the years for both club and country... But after being signed by Liverpool for an initial £10m in August 2024, he's started 2 League games in the near 2 full seasons since. Yes, he struggled with injury in his first, but as far as I'm aware he's been fit for the vast majority of 25/26. And yet... despite Liverpool selling Diaz, Nunez and unfortunately losing Jota, despite Gakpo's poor form this season and the fact that Liverpool played in 4 competitions... He's barely got a look in... I just don't get it!

@ReverendCPC @DougieCritchley No Jones isn’t supposed to follow a player just about anywhere, if anybody switched off it’s him. Chiesa doesn’t care who’s responsibility it is so he helps out just like he did when he saved us with that open goal earlier this season

@ReverendCPC @DougieCritchley No it was Jones that lost Digne. I can see why you’d think it was up to Chiesa to track him though, since he ended up covering for Jones. But Curtis was following a Villa player into no man’s land and forgot to look back

@crowe_lt @DougieCritchley I disagree that he reads the game so well, on the basis that decision making is poor. Did you see him completely lose Digne and let him run through? Intelligent footballers don't do that. You're right about him fighting for every ball though

He fights for every ball, finds passes the defenders don’t expect. Slot just doesn’t want to concede that he needs player intelligence where his tactics aren’t enough

@crowe_lt @DougieCritchley Too slow, lazy today in holding the line tonight costs us a goal. Gives away avoidable fouls when we're in dangerous areas. Too many offsides when looking along the line (Gakpo worse but that wasn't the question) and Fede has far less minutes.

Like how good would Mané have been if Klopp suddenly decided to bench him for five weeks after his famous Arsenal game?

@DougieCritchley He is an average footballer at this point mate, I backed him as well and always appreciate his heart, but whether it was the injuries or whatever, the player for Italy in those Euros is gone. Not good enough unfortunately

@DougieCritchley He would do very well in the MLS… not at premier league level. He lost a lot of his athletic ability after his knee injury. Still a great finish on him but if you don’t have the tools in order to get the shot off then it’s futile - as we have clearly seen.
