I once saved the life of my neighbor’s 2 year old toddler who had swallowed a big lollipop. While I was relaxing in my house, I heard a loud, urgent knock on the door. It was my neighbor’s 8 year old daughter, crying hysterically that her little brother was dying. Without a second thought, I ran out (just in my bra), not caring at all. When I reached their house, the little boy was stretching and struggling, clearly in distress. I quickly carried him, hit his back firmly and shouted to the 8 year old to grab my phone and call their parents. At that moment, I realized I was the only adult in the entire compound. The boy was still choking and convulsing. In a surge of courage, I pushed three of my fingers deep down his throat.
