Legend of the Galactic Heroes is possibly one of the greatest stories ever created for explaining the rise and fall of governments, and its focus on Heroes and the Great Men of History shows Great Man Theory in action, all in a timeless and classic story. Everyone should watch it
Natural Law Enthusiast@metastition

@KaiserLoengramm I congratulate you at weaponizing Legend of Galactic Heroes, it is surprising no one has done this before (myself I only started watching it a few weeks ago, or I would have done the same thing).

Absolutely incredible book review and perfect summation of what I meant by saying Christianity is a European religion. Yes, it’s universal. Yes, Jesus is from the Levant. But the religion itself was Born in the Greco-Roman world and formed in the Medieval Germanic world.

William Marshall has been called by many ‘the best knight that ever lived’! > Held hostage as a child by King Stephen to force his father to surrender a castle > Wounded in his valiant defence of Eleanor of Aquitaine when the treacherous Guy de Lusignan tried to capture her! > Tutor-in-arms and close friend to Henry the Young King, travelling together to participate in tournaments around Europe. > Fulfilled Henry’s vow to go on crusade as a deathbed promise to his deceased young friend. > Claimed to have defeated 500 opponents in tournament. > Unhorsed Richard the Lionheart during a skirmish. > Served on Richard’s regency council when he left on crusade. > When the French invaded and John died, the 70 year old Earl Marshal met the 9 year old Henry III, crowned with his mother’s bracelet, and told him ‘Fair lord, I can tell you sincerely, and may God protect my soul, that I will be yours in good faith and will not neglect you as long as I have the power to do so’ while all around wept, so moving was the scene. > Led the regency of the child-king and led the English against the invading French Prince Louis. > Defeated the French at Lincoln and caused many an English rebel lord on their side to come back over to their rightful king. > On his deathbed fulfilled a vow he made on crusade and joined the knights Templar > Died aged around 72, having stayed loyal to the crown when so many faltered, and rescued the kingdom of England from French invasion.

@BBHerodotus That idea that history and philosophy can be “as enthralling as any fiction” is such a reminder to read beyond our lanes. I’m collecting the books that shape my thinking here: wordsea.io/for-writers. If you ever want early ambassador access, happy to DM you.

“Now and then I am asked as to ‘what books a statesman should read,’ and my answer is, poetry and novels – including short stories under the head of novels. I don’t mean that he should read only novels and modern poetry. If he cannot also enjoy the Hebrew prophets and the Greek dramatists, he should be sorry. He ought to read interesting books on history and government, and books of science and philosophy; and really good books on these subjects are as enthralling as any fiction ever written.” - Teddy Roosevelt

@ChivalryGuild 11/10 book. Though I think Pressfield would do better to have avoided the use of the word «Knights», to stay more true to the ancient vibe. When @ChivalryGuild Book Club?

This book is a beautiful tribute to Alexander the Great's warhorse. “Bucephalus beneath me is so hot that steam rises from his flesh; the jets of his nostrils scald to the touch. I feel his will, not as an extension of mine, but as a force generated by his own valiant heart. He is alive and aware not as a beast but as a warrior. His joy fires me. I feed upon it, as I feel him feed upon mind. He loves this. It is what he was born for.”
