There's no better feeling in crypto than waking up to an old token getting acknowledged and pumped to > 100M mc. Won't post any pnl coins as it's not my thing but remember sometimes you could be way earlier than most so just have some conviction and patience to hold s/o @moronft

Web2 & Web3 .ID domain name registrations are now live on @solana via @alldomains
In association with Internet Service Provider Melsa, we are proud to announce the first-of-its-kind merging of a Web2 domain to a Web3 address
We’re shaping the future of domains on Solana

Over the last few days, vocal #Solana supporters have talked about Solana Domains, how they affect the identity of their users, and why they aren't as prevalent here
A small thread on how Solana Domains are different from @ensdomains and how we can improve the domain culture 👇
Before anything, we need to pinpoint why ETH domains are so successful. @punk6529 has an amazing thread on this - borrowing some of his thoughts:
A) Community, Belonging, and Transparency
The main driving factor behind most collectibles and especially highlighted in NFTs.
Despite the huge influence of monetary incentives, which often is the driving factor in discovering NFTs, at a high level, people look for a group to belong to.
You see this in every chain to a degree, but it's more prevalent on ETH.
Many make Punks, Bored Apes, Miladys, Pudgys, etc part of their internet identity. Even if their asset is underperforming, or if they initially bought just with a trade in mind, the reason these groups get so big is because people enjoy being part of them.
The key to a community is to have unique individuals aligned by a common interest, and being proud to show the world they belong somewhere.
These are different than IRL communities because of how transparent the blockchain is. You can see who owns each NFT and you can see the list of wallets (or people) that are part of each community allowing you to compose them into almost any ecosystem.
A) Individuality
The key to everything human-related is individuals. Everyone is unique, and as humans, we always try to stand out from one another.
As such, we go by the names we chose to be known by rather than a random string of text.
Not only because that shows who we "are" but because that helps others identify us.
You see this EVERYWHERE! Domains, UserIDs, @, etc. And we assign a high value to them.
No one wants to go to 172.217.14.206 to load Google, they rather go to google(dot)com
It's just much more convenient to use names.

Now you might be asking yourself, how come .sol domains aren't as popular as .eth domains if the fundamentals are fairly similar?
Why are .eth people more likely to make a .eth part of their name an identity?
There's no universal answer and as everything, it's a mix of factors. From what I could gather it mostly boils down to:
- Fewer market participants make it harder to peer pressure others into making their domain public.
- Not enough big community identities have been fostered, the current mentality in Solana is very individualistic, focusing on smaller groups rather than the Solana collective.
- It's easy to see .eth as a winner, while .sol is still an underdog. People don't like to be wrong.
- Bumpy release of .sol domains. Bonfida's auction system made acquiring an identity extremely hard and costly.
- ENS rewarded its users. It's a medal of honor.
- Lack of decentralization of the .sol domains.
We can see that despite the utility of ENS and Solana Domains being similar, the way they are released to the public, the structure of the model behind them, and the overall public's perception of the value of .sol is much lower than of .eth

While looking for alternatives that address what I believe are the issues behind this, I stumbled upon @alldomains , an open-source, decentralized, and, most importantly, community-owned TLD (Top Level Domain) protocol on Solana.
It introduces the ability to make a domain out of
.[anything], with a few exceptions such as web3 identifiers (.eth .btc .sol etc). The key thing is it allows anyone and everyone to create these TLDs by crowdfunding "pools" with their native token.
This opens the possibility for anyone to own and create their own domain sub-community while the domains stay immutable at a protocol level once created.
It allows users to set up TLDs in a few minutes, enables secondary trading for the domains registered under their TLD, and democratizes the registry costs by a vote between all the pool contributors.
It's currently integrated with most (all?) wallets, birdeye, and some explorers. Most notably lacking integrations with Tensor and Magic Eden.
The reason I share this is because as a working initiative, I believe it addresses most of the concerns behind the lack of user use of Solana domains by allowing communities to be formed under Solana in a completely decentralized manner.
As a test, I have created the .manlet domain, representing the common culture behind all of us Solana manlets - it just felt right.

In the end, if we want to grow the Solana pie together the first step is to raise awareness by being proud of being a part of Solana, and showing the same, or more, confidence other chain users have.
That's the only way we can, as a community, innovate enough to improve on the issues that hold us back and grow together 🤝
