Context/Details: July 2016, China. In a tragic incident at the Badaling Wildlife World near the Great Wall of China, a woman was mauled to death by a tiger. The horrifying event unfolded when reportedly a woman, after an argument with a man in the car, stepped out of the vehicle. She was immediately attacked and dragged away by a Siberian tiger. Her mother, in an attempt to help, also left the car and was subsequently mauled to death by another tiger. The daughter survived and is now out of danger following treatment. A man and a child, also part of the family, were present during the incident; the man attempted to rescue the woman, while the child stayed inside the car. Contrary to some reports, the park confirmed that the tigers involved in the attack were not euthanized but are now caged. It was revealed that the woman who first exited the car did so under the belief that they had already left the park, which permits visitors to drive their own vehicles in an open space where animals roam freely but strictly prohibits exiting vehicles near the animals. This incident is not the first attack at the park; two years prior, a male employee was killed by one of the tigers.
