@TracyZager @MathMinds @jennalaib @KanekaTurner @Trianglemancsd I wonder if students need the term square root before 8th grade? I mean is there is a genuine need that rises from the gut- “I’m making sense of a mathematical idea & I’m using all of these organic meaningful words to describe it. What do mathematicians call it? I need to know!”

5R came up with amazing notice and wonders with lesson 26, unit 5 of ⁦@IllustrateMath⁩ today! The questions and ideas the students came up with were amazing, but the amount of focused discourse was the best! #weareirving

@MorrisonsClass 😂 I only get excited about the pink and red Starbursts. What did they say when asked how many they see? I’m so curious to hear how they described it.

After a great discussion about Powers of 10 and this Starburst. They inform me they thought I was just really excited about the candy and had no clue this was called a starburst 🤦🏻‍♂️

@jennalaib @theresawills That was a fun one. I used it with a bunch of different grades too and the different strategies and connections were fascinating.

How many years have you been teaching and, at this point, what has most influenced how you teach? ▢% - methods courses? ▢% - PD sessions? ▢% - curriculum? ▢% - tv & movies? ▢% - etc etc This question is keeping me up. TIA. #iteachmath #AMTE2022

@3DWildcats @IllustrateMath @dahazel77 Oh! It would be so interesting to hear the two students compare their arrays. What’s the same? What’s different? This student work is awesome. Thank you for sharing it.

@3DWildcats @IllustrateMath @dahazel77 I am so interested in the 6x8 array! Did the student start with that because it was a fact they knew? I want to ask them to tell me more about the multiplication in their drawing? Where do they see groups? Will they talk about “groups of groups”?

3De unexpectedly dropped in on Mr. Hazel's and Mrs. Santaniello's @IllustrateMath lesson today, and we're so glad we did! We're learning strategies to divide larger numbers, and who better to learn it from, than the pro himself! #GOAT🐐 @dahazel77

Starting the day with a powerful @IllustrateMath lesson in fifth grade. Ss are demonstrating a deep understanding of the concept and making meaning through their conversations. #KellerJourney
