In the inscription "大秦景教流行中国碑" (781 AD), there is a record of the Tang Dynasty celebrating Christmas: "代宗文武皇帝,恢張聖運,從事無為,每於降誕之辰,錫天香以告成功,頒御饌以光景眾."
