@JuanPascual4 @_ClimateCraze John, you are building a straw man. Greenhouse effect heats the atmosphere ca. 33°C, which is fine for otherwise we would have a snowball Earth. Anthropogenic GH effect is on the way of heating atmosphere 2° and this is dangerous for our civilization.

@JuanPascual4 De todas formas para otra le puedes mostrar este paper nuestro doi.org/10.1038/s44185… donde mostrábamos cómo el nicho de herbívoros tiene un tamaño fijo y la ganadería no va a crecer exponencialmente (como implica esa figura penosa que digo).

@JuanPascual4 Vaya porquería de paper que ha citado, en concreto esa figura que pega. Confunde producir más carne con tener más ganado. Ni idea tiene de la ganancia de eficiencia de pasar de sistemas ganaderos basados en el capital a otros basados en la producción (= cabezas, + producción).

Pascual no seas tan tramposo y deja de engañar a la gente. La biomasa de mamíferos silvestres representa sólo el 2% del total de la biomasa global de mamíferos, y disminuyendo. El ganado mamífero representa el 60%, y subiendo. Eres un manipulador science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…

@FrederikSchenk @ryankatzrosene In line with the comment from @BenKoby1911 to the same post by @ryankatzrosene, I wonder if the difference may rely in one way or the other to the increased forest cover in the NH. There are also some interesting paleo questions that I would love to be able to test one day.

There's a Nobel prize for the taking for whichever genius figures out how this works. 'Hemispheric albedo symmetry' refers to the observation that both the Southern and Northern Hemispheres have roughly the same overall albedo... until recently. As Loeb et al. show in this paper, there is increasing asymmetry between Hemispheres, and the implications for the climate could be enormous. "Hemispheric albedo symmetry has been a topic of fascination since it was first observed from satellites (5). Much speculation exists about whether this is a fundamental property of the climate system or occurs just by chance (6–8)." pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pn…

@fmeeus1 The point is, much of the current livestock abundances were done at the expense of wild ruminants that occupied the same ecological niche. So the total CH4 concentration should not have increased much. These emissions are not only biogenic: they are natural.

@fmeeus1 Your interpretation is not quite right, I recommend an attentive read to x.com/i/status/20556…. What you describe is the biogenic nature of livestock methane. However, artificially high ruminant (wild/livestock) concentrations in the biosphere should trigger higher CH4.

Nieuwe studie bevestigt wat wij al wisten : koeien zijn klimaat neutraal. Ja, ze stoten broeikasgas methaan uit. Maar dat methaan wordt binnen 12 jaar omgezet naar CO2 in de lucht . En wordt opgenomen door het groeiende gras. Gras dat de koeien eten en omzetten in BBQ vlees & melk en methaan gas. Koeien zijn een onderdeel van natuurlijke koolstof cyclus.
