In an effort to break out of my comfort zone this spooky season, I read my first ever horror book. Namely, The Massacre at Yellow Hill by @CSHumble. Despite the horror elements, which were visceral and well paced, the most emotionally impactful moments came from deeply resonant human stories. Stories about parents and friends, love, loss, and sacrifice. The book was exceptional and exceeded any expectation I might have had. A perfect introduction to the genre and a masterful combination of appropriately pulpy bloody parts and heartbreaking reality. In fact, I'm afraid my horror bar might now be set a bit too high...
