The tide is turning! No single SOTA can be good at everything and cost less, than a open-weight model fine-tuned to your org's needs.

After @Pinterest @Airbnb @NotionHQ @cursor_ai, today it’s @eoghan @intercom publicly sharing that they’re finding it better, cheaper, faster to use and train open models themselves rather than use APIs for many tasks. And hundreds of other companies are doing the same without sharing. Ultimately, I believe the majority of AI workflows will be in-house based on open-source (vs API). It took much more time than we anticipated but it’s happening now!

Apple with its M-series hardware + open weight models + MLX ecosystem + dev community can win this AI race, if they play the cards well.

Cursor using Kimi K2.5 under the hood is a clear sign of economics of AI leaning towards cost over raw ability. It matters less and less (with better agents and harnesses) what model we use, as long as it is cheap and fast. May the cheapest+fastest win !

Every technology-revolution has one or two languages as core drivers. Internet had HTML/JS. ML had Python. Smartphone apps had Java and Swift. LLMs have markdown.

PRD -->HLD, LLD-->Design review-->Develop and optimize -->Test-->Code review-->Sandbox-->A/B test-->Deploy was the hard learnt process to build reliable software. We cant simply move to Prompt--> Deploy using AI. We need a new process around AI-code with accountability.

DefenseTech as we know has changed so fast. Classical super-powers like Russia and US are struggling to compete with asymmetric tech and quick iterations from Ukraine and Iran. With AI's help, this velocity of innovation will be 100X, especially when the enemy is at the gates.

I am evolving to stop thinking that I am an Applied AI Scienitist or an ML Engineer. I am trained to be a Scientist+Enginner all my life. I am no more limited by the narrow field. I think everything from mechanical engineering to biology is fair game, with lots of help from AI.

Only a very small minority of people (amongst those who could) have historically exploited opportunities created by transformative technologies, whether it is the Gutenberg press, Steam engine, Industrial revolution, Air travel, Internet, Social media and now AI.

Margins in pure software businesses will eventually be same as FMCG or commodity products, due to margin squeezing by smaller and more efficient teams using AI.

@hemanth_why @GeminiApp I work with a startup that is full stack: from raw ICs, circuit baords, 3D CAD, all the way to AI layer. This has been our experience in the recent past.

@cskvarma @GeminiApp Are you working on designing those electro-mech systems or writing code for them?? For coding in the electronics part, I heard claude or gtp models better??

When I build any electronics circuitry, firmware or electro-mechanical systems, I often find @GeminiApp 3.1 Pro out performing Opus 4.6 and GPT 5.2. It could just be due to Google's massive index of every datasheet (or) it could be due to their work on Google DeepThink/Aletheia

So many tweets and replies feel "AI-written" now. This dilutes the human voice and the reader takes you less seriously. Earlier, I wrote a couple of tweets using AI (with clear labelling), I avoid it altogether now. I want to write like myself, however bad it may be....

@sureshsurya562 I am all in for physical spaces and peer group to learn, just not for the rigid 10+2+4 format. @AlphaSchoolATX is one model I like. Micro-schools with accelerated leanring and hands on projects is another.

@cskvarma In my opinion, it still matters. We don’t go to school just for information — AI has democratized that. School is about the ecosystem, where kids build human skills a screen can’t teach: critical thinking, collaboration, breaking down complex proble, communication etc

In the age of AI, is the 10+2+4 year model of school and undergrad education apt? Why can’t students learn at their preferred pace and build value to the ecosystem as they see fit? I am really curious, given I have kids aged 7 and 4….

The actual cost of "education" has been ZERO for a long time, with free content from Youtube, MIT OCW, Khan Academy etc. It's just gotten 10X better with Gemini/ChaGPT and others. What's in scarcity is the willingness to learn and put in the effort over extended periods of time.

@RK_Manne The actual cost of "education" has been ZERO for a long time, with free content from Youtube, MIT OCW, Khan Academy etc. What costs is a degree as teachers and administrators need to be paid a salary and there is an operating cost.

@cskvarma Even if you ignore AI for a moment, just think of cloud , digital and biometrics. Cost of arts , humanities , law and communications education can be slashed by 90% just wit these tech. It just needs political will to reimagine the system.

@cskvarma Sir, do you suggest any B.Tech graduate or an early professional in IT whether to pursue an MBA degree is worth pursuing in this age of AI ?

If I cannot think of 10X innovations in my core vertical, with some help form my team, I don't deserve to be the cofounder/CEO. If this is about cutting operating costs due to bloat or to pop-up the stock price, say it so. Dont blame AI for it. My 2 cents.... (2/2)

Using AI, if every member of my team can be 10X more effective and I fire x% of my employees, that shows lack of imagination at my end. Given that my team knows my vertical better than most, I would do launch 10X more products/services and innovate, given profits to fuel it (1/2)
