Why does hateful content keep thriving online? What to Fix Executive Director @riovictoire explains how tying revenue to engagement turns outrage into a profitable business model, allowing actors to scale harmful content across markets even faster with generative AI. The problem is not simply AI. It is the incentives platforms have created and their failure to consistently enforce their own policies.

Online hate has become a business model. Watch investigative journalist Meriem Mahdhi explain how South Asia-based online networks have pushed racist, Islamophobic, and anti-migrant content targeting UK and European audiences, monetized Facebook pages through Meta's ad program, and even taught others how to replicate the model. The myth of “Islamification” is being manufactured, amplified, and normalized by elected officials. Our recent report, Manufacturing the Muslim Threat, is cited in The Economist’s latest reporting on the growing anti-Muslim campaign in Texas and across the United States. csohate.org/2026/04/21/man…

Watch this latest Al Jazeera report featuring our 2025 research and insights from our Director of Research, Eviane Leidig, on how AI is amplifying gendered Islamophobia and digital abuse. #AI #GenAI

.@csohate & @kunalpurohit reported 225 songs promoting violence & hatred to major platforms. 6 months later, only 18 had been removed. Meanwhile, YouTube ads, Meta creator programmes & streaming royalties continue to reward many of the creators spreading anti-Muslim hatred. Big Tech has the policies to stop this. It chose not to. #NewReport: Profiting from Hate Music report is the first comprehensive mapping of India's hate music industry and the role @YouTube, @Spotify, @Meta, and @AppleMusic play in sustaining and funding it. We documented 523 Hindutva pop (H-Pop) hate songs that dehumanize Muslims and Christians and, in many cases, glorify or incite violence against these communities. The songs were found across major digital platforms and music streaming services despite violating their own policies on hateful and harmful content. Key findings: -5.9M+ Instagram reels created using hate songs -198M+ views on YouTube -1 in 2 songs explicitly threaten violence -Ads from 103 brands, including @OpenAI, @Google, @amazon @PrimeVideo, @Adobe, Dell and @LEVIS, ran on hate song videos on YouTube -Platforms removed just 8% of reported hate songs, despite clear violations of their own policies. These hate songs have already contributed to deadly communal violence and real-world attacks against minorities across India.
