@RutgersAltRoute A5: I'm still working towards designing assessments around growth rather than compliance. My focus for next year is limiting these type of assessments and framing assessments around growth. #altrted #growthmindset

@RutgersAltRoute A2: setting the expectation that the classroom is an environment for growth, and that the material they are approaching requires them to put in effort to demonstrate growth can promote a growth mindset #altrted #growthmindset

@RutgersAltRoute A1: developing a strong growth mindset can set a student on a firm path towards learning. The challenge can be simply getting them to recognize the importance of a growth mindset, especially if they have been taught to develop a fixed mindset.

@RutgersAltRoute A5, I believe the first step is to review and clarify those policies, along with offering PD opportunities for teachers to bolster their knowledge and practice in behavior management in the classroom. #altrted #sped

@RutgersAltRoute A3, I believe differentiation can be a good way to create opportunities for these students. More active learning activities can better engage students with ADHD, while providing choice can allow other students to choose a process/product that works best for them #altrted #SpEd

@RutgersAltRoute A2, I think self-assessment and reflection are good practices for students with disabilities to recognize areas that they can improve and can self-advocate for resources to improve those areas. #altrted #SpEd

@RutgersAltRoute A5: Directing students who are involved in bullying towards the counseling services and maintaining communication with parents is good start towards providing the students a network of support. #AltRtEd

@RutgersAltRoute A4: A challenge is once bullying has been identified in the classroom, how can you turn it into a learning opportunity for the whole class to learn about the emotional and social repercussions of bullying.

During our previous chat we discussed #edtech & opportunities for collaboration. For Q3, reflect on how you engage with your colleagues & students' families (high tech or low tech) to create a safe learning environment for all students. #AltRtEd #Standuptobullying

@RutgersAltRoute A2: A clear classroom policy on bullying along with an explanation of what bullying is and how to recognize is a good first step to addressing and minimizing bullying in the classroom #AltRtEd

@RutgersAltRoute A1: I try to create an atmosphere of mutual respect for ideas and perspectives. I start the year with a number of activities that give students the opportunity to recognize another student's perspective and to civilly respond with their own. #AltRtEd

To start us off here's question 1! When considering your "practices", you can think about: - classroom management, - the academic/social/emotional skills you are teaching, - the physical/virtual space of the classroom, and - the curriculum #AltRtEd #Standuptobullying

@SunflowerYA5 @RutgersAltRoute For example, we've been reading The Things They Carried. I created a Jamboard for each character, divided the class into groups and had each group work together to illustrate the things their soldier literally and figuratively carries. They practice skills and it's creative!
