PM’s statement to cabinet. Nutshell: he will not set out timetable for departure. And he is, in effect, baiting Wes Streeting to challenge him
The Prime Minister told a meeting of the Cabinet:
“As I said yesterday, I take responsibility for these election results and I take responsibility for delivering the change we promised.
“The past 48 hours have been destabilising for government and that has a real economic cost for our country and for families.
“The Labour Party has a process for challenging a leader and that has not been triggered.
“The country expects us to get on with governing. That is what I am doing and what we must do as a Cabinet.”

@jones71094 @Lina_rays1ya The Marshall Plan was a LOAN. The EU paid it back over more than 50 years.

@Lina_rays1ya Our bases and troops have been protecting Italy since WWI, II. The US helped to rebuild EU. Time to remove our assets. We will not be so friendly its not about friendship but the One World Order.

Jess Phillips' resignation letter in full bbc.in/4dHOZhV
English

This from Jess Phillips’s resignation letter is devastating for the prime minister
“Over a year ago I presented solutions, long worked on by brilliant civil servants that would end the ability for children in the UK to take naked images of themselves. 91% of online child sex abuse is self-generated by children groomed, tricked and exploited in to abuse. The technology exists to stop children being able to take naked images of themselves. We could make this possible on every phone and device in the country. We could stop this abuse. It has taken me a year to get you to agree to even threaten to legislate in this space. Not legislate, just threaten. This is the definition of incremental change. Nothing bold about it. The announcement was meant to be in March, I'm still on a promise this will happen in June, I've given up believing it. How many children were left without a safety net in the time we dilly dallied and worried about tech bosses?
This is just one example.”

@jeremycorbyn And it was calmer when you were leader of the PLP?
You must be loving all this. I bet you are stoking as many fires as possible. Looking forward to a Reform govt

The Prime Minister says his government has got "the big political decisions right". Let's go through them.
The government chose to cut welfare so it could spend even more on weapons and war.
The government chose to demonise the sick and disabled.
The government chose to keep children in poverty until it was dragged kicking and screaming to finally scrap the two-child benefit cap.
The government chose not to bring water into public ownership, not to tax wealth and not to implement rent controls.
The government chose to arm Israel and participate in genocide.
The government chose to let the US use British air bases for its war crimes in Iran.
The government chose to let Palantir get its hands on our NHS.
The government chose to scapegoat migrants and refugees for its own failures.
Poverty, inequality and genocide. Those are the government's big decisions. And that is how this government will be remembered.

@MartinSLewis Careful. You'll be seen as a politician and people will trust you less if you do this

Very interesting read. I met Miatta a number of times when she was in the department for energy effectively as minister for consumers, she picked up the brief extremely quickly - and 'got it' in conversations.

This morning I sent my letter of resignation to the Prime Minister. I urge the Prime Minister to do the right thing for the country and the Party and set a timetable for an orderly transition.

Starmer's resignation is not enough. What needs booting out is the politics he represents: corporate greed, anti-migrant rhetoric and endless war.
