🎥 For those who are unaware, I’m the less tall replacement for Chris Petchelli at CtrlAltRefuel. With giant shoes to fill, it’s early days so give me a few episodes to get my mojo. In the meantime, do enjoy CtrlAltRefuel V2.0 and our latest episode: youtu.be/YLuxUPWxQb0

It's midday. Want something to put you off your lunch? How about episode 28 of Ctrlaltrefuel where we welcome @graeme_cobb to the on-screen talent team. He has opinions about EV pickup trucks: We think he's going to fit in just fine. Graeme addresses the elephant in the room - Newt's fetish for buying very small cars that he doesn't tell his wife about and we wish a fond and hearty farewell to Chris Petchelli. Your home is at risk if you don't keep up repayments on something secured on it. youtu.be/YLuxUPWxQb0

@LookingBack22 @ctrlaltrefuel @road_electric In my experience public charging is above ICE costs mostly. If you want to sit at a Tesla charger at unsociable hours then it’s cheaper, but that’s about it. And that’s before you add 3p/mile that increases annually with CPI. I’d need to see diesel go above £2/l to save on an EV.

We have to get our head around the fact that the vast majority of EV curious people don't see the shortcomings of hybrids. Rightly or wrongly they do see them as a halfway house between their stinky diesel and a clean EV. Those of us that are aware of the reality - we should be embracing the death of diesel, however it comes about. Paul

@graeme_cobb @ctrlaltrefuel No criticism of your article implied Graeme, it came across as quite balanced to me, particularly the closing conclusion. Just adding some facts and figures to the discussion on the overall topic of whether we should be reluctant about hybrids.

@tesladrivenlife 30th of September 2024 was its last shift. I'm ever so conflicted. These things were part of my childhood, the majestic steaming monsters. They have a grace about them - the beautiful curves but now I know we can and must do better. P

Ratcliffe-on-Soar, the UK's last coal fired power station. It seems weird to think these structures won't be dominating our sky line quite soon. P

@joncoupland I quite like it. It’s silly, small and pointless. Right up my street. I don’t think many will buy one and we reckon that Honda won’t sell them for long. Newt.

@ctrlaltrefuel @MartinWard_Cars @eV_Newt Yes, he’s obviously lovely to fellow auto journalists. He’s got some kind of weird obsession to keep deliberately tagging me in his posts when he knows I want nothing to do with him and why. But already taken @EV_Newt ‘s advice and blocked him anyway. Hence my previous post.

@MartinWard_Cars @Synchronicity34 Thank you. 🙏 Yeah, the B03X doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue does it. China’s weird naming of cars continues. Still, it’s better than BYD’s at least. Sealion 7DMi. Or my all-time favourite the BYD Destroyer 😅

Long car journey games. When we see a vehicle crashed or broken down, all occupants have to guess the nationality of the broken car before we get close enough to identify it. Everyone guesses in turn, but the person who guesses first is rotated through the car. The first person often chooses French. British is a leftfield choice. Players rarely choose Japanese though their sheer volume skews the chance of the busted car being Japanese. Recently, Chinese has become a cunning choice and Germany comes up more frequently than we expected when we devised the game. The nationality is simplified. Overarching corporate group structures are ignored, so it's easy to determine the country of origin. It sounds complex, but it isn't once you get going. Works best on motorways. Paul

Press Test Car from @RenaultUKPR a Renault 4. A bit busy on right hand side of the steering wheel. Gearshift, wipers and radio controls, all very close together. I’ve set wipers going a couple of times, putting it into Drive. @NGMWcars
