Why would I leave trump, the selected head of the republican party, out of statements about the divisiveness of the parties? Yes, division existed before trump, I didnt say it didnt. Youre going back to Clinton and HW bush before you really had presidents who'd cross aisles. Obama talked about unity between parties a lot, and at least had the attitude of a statesman, but whether it was due to Obama, congress, both... the unity didnt happen. Trump is an open agitator of his opponents. He has no desire for unity. I do think that's unique in an elected president (i dont think Hillary or Harris were any better with aggressive desisiveness). Sadly, that seems to be how the two party structure chooses to debate now.thats why I didnt vote for either Hillary, Harris, or trump... im done holding my nose and voting for bad candidates.

He told me he was “embarrassed” by his own party. Embarrassed that they would not stand for something so basic. He was further embarrassed when members like Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib began shouting from the gallery. By the end of the night, he told me he was glad he watched the entire speech. And he said that today, he would begin the process of changing his party affiliation. This was not an emotional whim. It was building. This is the second time his wife has been furloughed during a government shutdown. In his view, which is correct, both shutdowns were driven by a party leadership more focused on prioritizing illegal immigrants than protecting the livelihoods of American families like his. You can say this conversation never happened. I already know some will. But it did. And my guess is that this one man may represent more than himself. Ignore that reality at your own risk.
