@LizzieGibney Another level of fact behind this: there is less percentage of juniors than seniors for white, which means it is less likely for the other ethnicities to get promoted to senior level.

A similar plummet happens going from junior to senior research roles. Representation of people of all ethnicities, other than white, falls. Just 0.6% of UK science professors are Black. Why? As my interviewees told me, the system is just not a level playing field 6/n

In the first of a series of @Nature features, I looked at ethnic diversity within UK science – and the results were stark. This is not just an injustice, it’s bad for science, because diversity breeds better research. A🧵1/n nature.com/immersive/d415…

#GalaxyClusters are used to help in our understanding of the Universe. Current processes to measure their mass are time consuming and results are not accurate. A team have used #MachineLearning to obtain accurate and swift recordings of mass: edin.ac/3eOtNw7

@satellitegalaxy Do you mean random points within a 3d sphere? Are there projections more concentrated in the center instead of outer regions?

My go to image to explain why cos(θ) (and not θ) is uniform for the projection of a random distribution of points on a sphere.

Over a year's work is finally out: arxiv.org/abs/2202.14038 It is not easy to match observation, but it is worth as we also made predictions for it. Check this out. More is coming.

Woke up in a cold sweat bc I had a dream where I couldnt clearly explain the relativistic electric dipole problem to a hall full of first years. Then in a panicky haze I realized a possible error in my work on redshifting of the Large scale structure due to the cosmic dipole

@npr247 The longer you worked as a postdoc, the heavier you are exploited. But what can we do?

Simply put, if you work more than 40 hours a week, you are being exploited
