@curebores @ManaByte its like the government saying “we’re enforcing anti-theft laws. if you dont want to be jailed, do not steal”. hope that helps.

Good luck finding a lawyer willing to stand in front of a federal judge and argue, "Your Honor, my client's right to sneak hardware exploits past a video game's security system is protected by the Constitution." The case would be laughed out of court before the gavel even hit the desk. Banning accounts doesn't work against DMA hardware cheaters because they just buy a new $2 cracked account and do it again. Riot finally targeted the actual root of the problem, and the only thing being "destroyed" here is the cheaters' ability to ruin games for everyone else.
The Smeefly One@TheyCallMeSmeef

Hot take: Its morally wrong to destroy someones property because they cheated at your game. Banning them is a perfectly reasonable remedy. Enjoy the future class action lawsuit.

@macchimami @ManaByte Not supported by that post. They say that this feature is enforced on accounts they detect are using a DMA device which then causes that device to start throwing errors once enabled. That feature is a BIOS setting. Meaning that to enable it they must be editing that user's BIOS.

@curebores @ManaByte no it doesnt. but it certainly does force you to enable it to be able to access and play their games. it wil be you who has to turn it on. if your BIOS “suddenly” has it enabled, then most likely a BIOS update has happened that patches IOMMU to be enabled to meet new standards.

@curebores @ManaByte on this relatively new era of computers, it is enabled by default to meet microsoft’s modern hardware security standards.

@curebores @ManaByte idk what kind of fantasy you live on, nobody said anything about playing with BIOS. even then, once microsoft implements its changes after the crowdstrike incident, they will implement the same security measures with relevance to IOMMU.

@macchimami @ManaByte The settings in the BIOS are not for you to play with. You do not own the machine. You do not get to decide what hardware runs on it or not. I hope you're not a Riot employee because this exchange is telling me that you clowns should be nowhere near our computers.

@curebores @ManaByte IOMMU is a feature already designed for the purpose vanguard is making use of it. Even then, it only affects the memory vanguard itself is protecting. It’s not breaking or tampering your hardware, its just blocking the hardware’s “unauthorized direct access” to your PC’s memory.

@macchimami @ManaByte The switch you pulled being part of the machine doesn't mean that pulling it without authorisation isn't tampering you fool. Go start pulling levers at random in a power plant and see what the law has to say about it.

@curebores @ManaByte you basically debunked your own arguement. since its already on your bios, your computer manufacturer implemented it. riot is merely making use of it to make security concrete by not letting suspicious and vulnerable hardware run preemptively. that’s the purpose.

@macchimami @ManaByte Tamper: interfere with (something) in order to cause damage or make unauthorized alterations. Changing your bios setting so that hardware you want to run on your PC no longer does is unauthorised tampering, and criminal.

@curebores @ManaByte what you said isnt relevant to what I said at all, they aren’t breaking the law nor tampering. their AC is merely functioning and following a security system that microsoft itself is attempting to implement sooner or later. blog.blanche.dev/2026/05/22/ker…

@curebores @ManaByte but they arent tampering outside of their TOS and what microsoft has already implemented on their system? the AC isnt breaking the hardware… it blocks the hardware from being operational while having any riot software running. blog.blanche.dev/2026/05/22/ker…

@Doob13Ashtray @ManaByte Sorry but my PC I choose what switches get pulled. Let me put this another way - "those switches on this control panel are part of the nuclear power plant so me fucking around with them unauthorised isn't tampering with a nuclear reactor!"

@curebores @ManaByte Then windows should have it on by default and they wouldn't need to turn it on themselves when their game is running.

Tell me you don’t know how your own PC works without telling me. Enabling IOMMU in your BIOS isn’t "Riot messing with your computer"; it's a standard virtualization security feature built by AMD and Intel that has existed for a decade. It protects your PC from malicious hardware access. The only people mad about Vanguard requiring it are the ones who need that malicious hardware access to run their DMA cheats. If you're this terrified of basic Windows security protocols, you're either running a cheat card or getting your tech support from TikTok.

Nice damage control. “Let’s us mess with your BIOS or you’re a dirty cheater”

@curebores @Lypning @drogonvlr ok think of it like this. someone breaks into your house, to prevent this you put a lock on your door, the person now blows up your door with a hard grenade, you're blaming the lock for your door being broken

@ArtiMeyer @Lypning @drogonvlr Again, without your malware - PC functions. With your malware - PC does not function. Should be flagged as the rootkit it is and removed.

@curebores @Lypning @drogonvlr the crash doesn't happen because of the anti cheat. it happens because the DMA card has firmware that is designed poorly and crashes when you don't give it unrestricted access to the game which you obviously can't do for security reasons

@curebores @Lypning @drogonvlr The pc crashes because the DMA card crashes when it tries to access the games memory which it's not allowed to do and will only do if you're trying to use it to cheat. It's not Riots fault that the firmware on the card sucks and isn't compatible with basic security features

Arti@ArtiMeyer·
@Lypning @drogonvlr The reality is that it's not vanguard crashing these pc's in the first place. The DMA cards just expect to be able to alter the game memory and when they can't they just instantly crash which then causes the system to crash. It's all due to faulty or malicious firmware on DMA
