Thanks for having me! Unless the SoR movement can come up with more than “BL bad” & “SoR good”, disseminating superficial knowledge & beating the crisis drum, it’s pointless. The SoR movement won’t improve student outcomes unless it makes a drastic shift from dogma to details.

Need for a rethink of use of devices in schools with evidence that high levels of screen time had a negative effect on children’s emotional stability and reduction in achievement levels

This is pretty significant: Unesco calls for global ban on smartphones in schools < this is a major U-turn for UNESCO, they were advocating their use in the classroom as a driver of literacy in 2014. theguardian.com/world/2023/jul….

"I believe that there is a need in education for the ‘good-enough’ teacher, particularly in response to the tyranny of the ‘outstanding’ teacher (which is a form of perfectionism, in my opinion). The good-enough teacher goes their best to care for & educate their class…" 1/2

Even with the best of teaching, dyslexia is still hard for the child and the family 💔 A very important thread to highlight that there is no quick fix or magic solution
Mrs. K@MelK_Ed

My daughter has dyslexia and has been in a structured literacy, systematic phonics setting with highly qualified and properly trained teachers from the start (preschool-2nd) Here are some realities we still face- 1- Reading is still incredibly challenging 🧵

Brilliant presentation from James Kim, representing Harvard GSE. Findings indicate sustained content literacy instruction that spirals topics and semantically related vocabulary across grades can promote longer-term improvements in students’ reading outcomes. #sssr2023

Worst school holiday ever. A huge ngā mihi to the medical staff at Palmy hospital who took such good care of my boy. He’s out and on the mend, handling the long waits in ED and different medical procedures like a champion. 💖

@CarolineMoss Don’t gaslight people. She was compared to what she used to look at her peak. was it right? No. Was she obese at the time? No, she just didn’t look as good as she once did. Do people in general find fit people more attractive than say, ‘chubby’ people ? Yes.
