Sources also confirm that Hodgson recently declined an offer from Syracuse, citing a lack of NIL resources and fan support. Regardless, the Friars finally get their home-run hire. I don’t disagree with anything here and think you hit on something important: Gerry is such a legendary part of the program’s history that I think fans will give him a lot more leeway than pretty much any other possible coach. Hell, as skeptical as I am, I’m also a dude with two GMac jerseys and an “Overrated!?” tshirt hanging in my closet and at least once a year I rewatch his Senior Day tribute video. He’ll have a longer runway than anyone else.

My biggest fear with hiring Gmac is that the fanbase looks back in 3 years and reflects on how much they overvalued one game. Does he have enough experience? Does his slow offensive identity work? If this hire is not nailed, I do not think the program will recover.

The Syracuse hire just got interesting. There’s a real argument that Gmac will raise the most NIL which is the #1 factor But is the coaching gap between someone like Martelli, Murray, Skinn or Shaheen big enough for Gmac to not be hired? Tough Decision for Syracuse🍊

@AndrewSHoops2 Can you confirm he was offered? Nobody has been able to confirm that...you can't turn down something that you weren't offered. There's more to the story that needs clarification before "turned down" would be the right verbiage.

I also think Bryan Blair, the new AD at Cuse, now understands how much work he has to do to get the basketball program back. The candidate everyone wanted said no. Publicly it’s a bad look. There’s a lot that has to happen and it doesn’t happen over night. But i think Hodgson turning this down should be a motivation factor for Blair.

I mean, you're not wrong, our player development hasn't exactly been stellar. And to be clear, I would love to have Kiyan blossom into one hell of a player. I know I shouldn't hold a freshman season against anyone, especially with as much dysfunction as there has been around this program.
