the problem with "jazz sucks" is that people who say that are picking up, like, the hardest hard bop record and trying to vibe out. hard bop is for stuffy intellectuals to pretend theyre smart. what youre looking for is "cool jazz." listen to some bill evans and chet baker.

I went long on Scritti Politti's Cupid & Psyche 85, an album of dizzying musical and intellectual complexity that goes down like Coca-Cola, whose uncanny pop songs about pop itself invented a whole new approach to the form that we're still working through 40 years later

the truth is nobody listens to vinyl anymore. but thats okay, because the utility of vinyl isnt as a listening medium. its a physical collectible. these people will go home with their new records, display them in a prominent place on their shelf, and pull up the album on spotify.

@ZacharyLipez well with LC it’s at least what I imagine is a fairly commonly held opinion. ‘Spirit, They’re Gone, Spirit They’ve Vanished’ as the definitive Animal Collective LP is avant garde. I have to respect it.
