fixing, improve pitches, governance, youth coaching, TV rights, and club finances. Do not handicap the national team to solve domestic league failures. Not as if this even fixes the league sef.

I strongly disagree with this growing narrative that players in the Ghana Premier League are on the same level as those competing week in, week out in Europe. It’s honestly shocking to hear people confidently say that Kevin Nkrumah of Medeama SC is on the same level as Kamaldeen Sulemana, a player who has faced elite defenders in leagues like Seria A and the Premier League. That’s not a fair comparison!! The same goes for claims that Rudolf Mensah of Swedru All Blacks is on par with Prince Kwabena Adu, who is sharpening his game in Europe with FC Viktoria Plzeň. European football demands tactical discipline, speed of thought, physical conditioning, and consistency at a level our local league simply doesn’t replicate. 3yaaa y3n ka nokwr3 w) krom ha😂😂😂 Let’s be honest with ourselves: talent exists locally, no one is denying that. But talent without the right environment stays raw. The structure, coaching quality, sports science, and competitive intensity in Europe accelerate player development in ways the local system currently cannot match. Have we asked why players who look dominant locally struggle when they make the jump abroad? If anything, instead of forcing these comparisons, we should focus on improving player development pathways. Respect our local players, yes, but don’t overhype them to the point where we lose objectivity. The gap is real, and pretending otherwise doesn’t help Ghana football grow!!

@stephenzando National team call ups should be the result of a strong league, not the tool to fix a weak one.

In fact the argument of local players representation in the Black Stars must be a GFA policy. Best goalkeeper, defender, midfielder, attacker earn a place in the BS automatically. The GFA should have such a policy

Winning and development aren’t opposite they depend on each other….. A national team that ignores its domestic base becomes fragile at a point in time…and our happy moments with the history of the national team are many at times centred around local boys..with a small quality pool of foreign based players if injuries, form drops, or club release issues hit, there’s no depth… If local players aren’t at the same level, the solution isn’t to exclude them…it’s to give them structured exposure so they reach that level…. You can’t demand quality from players who never get meaningful minutes... quotas don’t mean picking weak players over better ones but they ensure a pipeline so the gap actually closes instead of widening forever..
FII@fiifi_manfred

Senior, the idea of a local league quota for national football team call ups sounds appealing on the surface but whether it’s “good” depends on what problem we are trying to solve, in Politics et al it’s about the problem you mentioned (survival) but a strict quota in this case of sports can backfire if it ignores merit. The national team’s primary goal is to win matches and not to develop the league,If local players aren’t yet at the same level as top foreign based players, forcing inclusion can weaken the squad It may create selection politics, where players are picked to satisfy policy rather than performance in the long run this doesn’t help anyone.

A lot of the arguments being made against GPL players getting quotas in the WC squad are compelling. Just to point out, quotas (in business, economics, sport etc) are one way to protect domestic investment, giving local products (GPL in this instance) a chance to survive.

One of the biggest indictments on the GPL in modern history is the Fabio Gama era. Guy came to our GPL and suddenly he looked like Iniesta. I stopped taking “GPL quality” arguments seriously after that. What an embarrassment

Use see Abdul Aziz Issah? he was a consistent performer in the Ghana Premier League but we’ve seen the difference when the opportunity to play in Europe arrived. The levels are different. That’s not to say we can’t get a single local player on merit!
Yaw Adjei-Mintah@YawMintYM

If Elisha Owusu and Kwasi Sibo can consistently make the Black Stars Squad and start games for the team, then a handful of Ghana Premier League players can do same. If you don't believe this then you are just being disingenuous

@garyalsmith Jordan was selected because he kept getting minutes for his club at a high level.Played consistently with crystal palace and Aston villa before Leicester .They didn’t receive callups out of sentiments. The national team isn’t a development project.

After you guys list all these 'failures', dont forget to remind us how wasteful Jordan was, and how it was only after years of patience that he is Ghana capt today. Heck, Gyan at the 2006 WC & 2008 AFCON was a chance-missing machine. Yet, he was trusted. Dont pick and choose.
Jude Duncan@mensaduncan

Fatawu Mohammed was selected while he was captain of Hearts for a WC qualifier against South Africa. He had a poor game & blamed the intimidating nature of the stadium. There were no fans present. It’s not just about talent; it’s the basics, exposure, coaching, and more.

Even Morocco and Senegal whose CHAN teams were very successful didn't reserve any quota for their local players. These boys when put together as a national team can't even perform. Don't even start that conversation. They must earn it. If you are a left back in the GPL, your competitors is against all Ghanaian LBs across the globe. Nobody will lock down any slots for you. Earn it.

Another way of looking at this is this: which GPL player is good enough to start at Real Oviedo or Auxerre on a consistent basis? Would those players bench these two at their clubs?

@stephenzando @OfficialSitso Last World Cup we sent Barnieh and danlad .Thier inclusion didn’t translate into increased demand ,transfers or visibility for the Gpl .If you want to develop the league there are better and evidenced based ways to do it .Selection to the national team should be merit based

@OfficialSitso You and i knw we watch the local players in the Black Stars with different lenses. Foreign based players can play wata for years they will be called severally. Same cannot be said of our local players. It’s for this i support the quota agenda for a developing league like GPL

With Victor Wembanyama on the floor, the Spurs generate far more layups for their point guard trio — a trio I spent all summer convinced wasn’t an ideal fit. De'Aaron Fox, Stephon Castle, and Dylan Harper are three downhill guards and none of them is a proven knockdown shooter. On paper the spacing math didn’t work. Mitch Johnson solved it by playing only one or two of them together at once. And Wemby handled the rest. Harper’s at-rim frequency jumps 15.5% with Wemby on the floor. Castle, 14.2%; Fox, 9.7%. More shots at the rim is one piece. More shots going in at a higher rate is the other. Every rotation player sees a jump, not just the guards. Devin Vassell’s true shooting climbs from 55.2% to 60.8%. Harrison Barnes from 58% to 64.7%. Julian Champagnie from 58.4% to 63.3%. Fox is the exception — his true shooting stays the same. Some of this increase is thanks to transition offense off stops. Most of it is Wemby’s gravity in the half-court. Gravity comes in different flavors. The first is simple spacing: his shooting pulls a big out of the paint and the guards drive into an empty lane. The more interesting one is what happens when he rolls. When off-ball defenders decide to stay home on shooters, the big man still needs to prevent a lob to Wemby, which means Fox, Castle and Harper can go one-on-one with a full head of steam and walk into layups. Of the nearly 400 handler/screener duos to log at least 100 pick-and-rolls this season, Fox/Wemby, Castle/Wemby and Harper/Wemby all rank in the 88th percentile or better in scoring efficiency. None of this shows up on his line. Wemby finishes those possessions with zero points and zero assists and jogs back down the floor, and the box score insists nothing happened. Something happened.
Kevin O'Connor@KevinOConnor

My 2026 NBA MVP ballot: 1. Victor Wembanyama 2. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander 3. Nikola Jokic I spent most of the season assuming I'd vote SGA. Then I looked closer. New column on @YahooSports: sports.yahoo.com/nba/article/th…
