In my personal view, very few politicians in #Malta truly understand the energy sector.
I find it surprising that the Nationalist Party now appears to support subsidies.
Just a few months ago, their Shadow Minister for Energy was actively campaigning for a fully liberalised free market in energy distribution, claiming it would “decrease energy tariffs across the board in Malta."
The reality is that, unless structured exactly like the current fuel subsidy system, energy subsidies are extremely difficult, if not impossible, to implement in a true free market. They would distort competition and almost certainly breach EU state aid and competition rules.
Malta’s derogation on the distribution of energy, which allows the state to maintain centralised control over electricity distribution, is actually a blessing. It has been supported by politicians from both sides of the House over the years. If we had followed the Nationalist Party’s earlier position and opened the market fully, today’s main electoral issue would be skyrocketing energy prices.
With current geopolitical tensions, prices would have risen sharply, and the Nationalists would once again find themselves on the wrong side of energy policy. Ordinary families, especially lower and middle-income households, would have been forced to make major lifestyle changes to cope with much higher electricity costs. They would have been much higher than Energy prices in 2008-2013.
Businesses would have passed on the increases to consumers, driving up the overall cost of living. Moreover, the Nationalist Party has consistently favoured heavy dependence on electricity interconnectors with neighbouring countries rather than building robust local infrastructure. They never strongly supported developing a balanced energy mix of cleaner fossil fuels, interconnectors, and renewables. As a result, any price spike in Italy (as we’ve seen recently) would be directly passed on to Maltese consumers.
I’m rarely impressed with energy policy from either side of the political divide. I sincerely hope that whoever is in government develops a coherent, forward-looking strategy that properly addresses Malta’s rapidly growing electricity demand, mostly driven by the increase of electric vehicles, new industries, and modern consumption patterns. We deserve better than short-term political positioning on such a critical issue.

Letter to the editor of @SpletnaMladina
Following an antisemitic imagery on today's edition.
It is disappointing every time such toxic discourse is normalized.

If we are serious about upholding the human rights of older persons, we must recognise them as vital contributors to our communities, and the primary keepers of institutional memory and mentorship.
In my message at this week’s national conference A Caring Nation: Shaping the Future of Ageing Services, I reaffirmed Malta’s support for UN efforts towards a Human Rights Convention for Older Persons.
Honoured to welcome Amal Abou Rafeh, Chief of the Programme on Ageing at @UN, to Valletta, as we commend the International Institute on Ageing, United Nations–Malta (INIA), @HealthmarkMalta, and @UN4Ageing, for organising this important conference.

You see, this is what you can't get because your intellectual level is too low to just fathom a shred of logic.
The original argument mentions "no kings, but yes ayatollahs' in Western protests. Someone replied that no one holds that view.
You are living proof that these people exist.
Maybe I'll put this easier for you to understand. The Iranian Goverment is an Islamist and Jihadist Government. It preys on the gullible and the weak, such as yourself, by indoctrinating people through religion. There is nothing wrong with the religion itself, as it is practicised in most muslim countries, who also agree that the Iranian regime is a totally sick government.
Now tell me how you can be in favour of a Government that kills its own citizens, shouts 'death to the west' as its own objective and oppresses women to the very least.
Keep up your values. I'm impressed.
Next Insult?

@cutajaralex @dylanc78 @DrNeilStone Ah, so you actually do believe the crap that comes out of your mouth. That’s even worse. I pity you.
I’ll explain this so even someone as thick as you can understand: If you think Muslims protesting an illegal war that America and Israel started = JIHADISM, you are a bellend
English

@ThrottleMerlin @dylanc78 @DrNeilStone I'm not pushing any propoganda. Just plain facts. Too bad you just can't handle simple facts. Debate me all you like, insulting me on a first attempt just proves what you are, just a sorry individual. Pity
English

@cutajaralex @dylanc78 @DrNeilStone Probably something to do with your pathetic propaganda you’re trying to push. Sorry that it offends you so much to accurately call you out as the stupid motherfucker you are. Either you’re paid to spread propaganda or you are a useful idiot for Zionist fascists
English

@ThrottleMerlin @dylanc78 @DrNeilStone What is it with people like you? Do you have a fetish for insulting people who don't share your opinion? Or is it just a matter of your intellectual limitations? Humour me
English

@cutajaralex @dylanc78 @DrNeilStone Oh I see you’re just a retarded bigot. Go suck some more Israeli cock you weak, propagandistic bitch
English

@ThrottleMerlin @dylanc78 @DrNeilStone What they're cheering for here is Islamism and Jihadism, not Islam. Islam is a question of faith, this is complete sickness.
English

@cutajaralex @dylanc78 @DrNeilStone Do you hold this same standard for people flying the Israeli flag after that country spent the last two and a half years committing a genocide, or is your contempt only for Muslims?
