Online "town squares" where people make friends, find community, and live much of their lives, should not be for sale. They should not depend on the whims of wealth. I don't have the answer to what we should have instead, or how to make it work. But this platform isn't it.

Every time I check in here again, things have gotten worse. I'm saddened by the countless communities and personal connections broken by the series of fiascos that's been the Twitter takeover.

@ceilfors I'm trying out Feedbin because I heard it recommended more than once, and I'm satisfied with it! You know where to message me if you get that substack going :)

@cvennevik Oh hello, Cecilie! Good for you that you've started blogging! I've stopped consuming RSS since Google Reader was discontinued (wow, 2013 was 9 years ago). How do you consume RSS nowadays? Been thinking about trying substack, will let you know if I ended up there.

Sad to see @cvennevik @emilybache @GeePawHill are longer active on Twitter! I'm sure there are others who are no longer active too. I still can't seem to make Mastodon less tech-focused for my non-tech interests, so I'm sticking around this bird site until it dies.

Reminder that I'm still active on the Fediverse at @cvennevik" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">hachyderm.io/@cvennevik, but also: If another social media platform isn't your style but you use an RSS reader, I've also started blogging! So far, this one is probably most relevant to my circle: cvennevik.no/post/code-revi…

@ceilfors It's no replacement for casual conversations, but I've started blogging at cvennevik.no, if you're into longform content. Maybe you could consider turning your weekly threads into blog posts, so they end up in my RSS reader?

@ceilfors Popping by because I had to check on something else: I miss you too!! Lots of people I was really happy to connect with on here that aren't in the same place as me now.

@eikonne This reminds me: I'm a fan of the thought of assuming "zero bugs" as an approachable goal, and viewing any bug in the software a symptom of a defect in the "development system" that can be improved.

Thought exercise... Complex systems fail. If a software engineering team is a complex system, then it will fail (at times). Failures are seen when software produced by the team fails to do what it is supposed to do or does what it is not supposed to do.

@rakyll I can sympathize with the situation, lots of young people depend on online communities, so the fate of Twitter is extremely important for them. If you don't understand just how shot Twitter's engineering capacity is, it's not surprising that Twitter's collapse is "unthinkable."

The core idea is simple, but almost never admitted: if, in a society of people who mostly follow certain rules and conventions, you systematically re-train yourself to ignore some of those conventions, you suddenly feel like a superhero who "sees the matrix".

Whatever the opposite of “hardcore” 10x rock star dev is, that’s what I want. cosycore, moving slowly, making things right, petting the dog, naps, staring out of the window pondering problems and drinking tea.

@ceilfors My current manager is not involved with my daily work at all, but is the one I report to as an employee of this consultancy company. We chat every now and then to make sure I'm happy and I go to them if I want training budget or to talk about any issues at my current "workplace."
