The Raiders planning to start Cousins over Mendoza should tell you exactly how they feel about Mendoza In no world should the 1st Overall pick backup a 37 year old washed QB while they are in rebuild mode

@joelISAACdiaz Fernando Mendoza is not the #1 on game film. That’s who’s being shoved on the public by people who offer little to no evidence to support their “valuation.” But Mendoza is clearly not the #1 on film as it relates to the NFL in this draft class.

So, Fernando Mendoza threw to receivers he was familiar with at his Pro Day, but he opted out of throwing to receivers he was unfamiliar with at the Combine? *Is he trying to hide something? *Why wouldn't he compete in the throwing drills at the Combine? *Is it that he was in control of the flow and the throwing script at his Pro Day, but he wasn't in control of the throwing drills or the routes at the Combine? *Did he not like throwing the routes they throw at the Combine? *Is he uncomfortable working with receivers he's not familiar with? *Does everyone realize that he's going to be throwing to an ever-changing room of receivers in the NFL? As a former NFL Scout— Fernando Mendoza’s pro day should be taken with a grain of salt. It represents the exact opposite of what life will be like for him in the NFL. It represents the exact opposite of NFL game conditions. He’s won’t be standing there wearing gym shorts controlling every aspect of everything that’s going on. He won’t be throwing a pre-rehearsed throwing script on every play with no pressure of game situations and no pass rush and nobody in coverage. He won’t even be throwing to the receivers he’s accustomed to throwing to when he gets to his new team. He’s going to have to work on timing with all new receivers and develop trust with them. The same Mendoza that’s in this video is the same Mendoza who went 58.1% vs. Old Dominion, 56.5% vs. Iowa, 53.3% vs. Purdue, and 40.0% in the second half of the National Championship Game this past season in game conditions—and that was at the college level playing on the No. 1 team in the country against college level competition. That wasn’t against NFL level defenses that are faster and more complex.

New coach that is competent with a new scheme that isn't the worst in the NFL. I want Shedeur to start but its totally understandable to think Deshaun can bounce back to 80% of his old self with competent coaching and teammates around him, but when you factor in the kind of person he is and his age and injuries and money situation it makes more sense to play Shedeur and see if he's got it if not draft another next year

Deshaun Watson didn’t play a snap last year. What the hell has changed in the last year that Jimmy Haslam thinks he can be a home run now? 😭

@PSchrags @ESPNNFL Too bad jimmy is going to force Watson onto the field. He’s probably the worst owner ever. Forced the Watson trade, forced drafting sanders and Gabriel thinking Watson was out for 2026 just to force Watson in now that he might be back

Browns HC Todd Monken notes that Shedeur Sanders has been in the building a bunch the last few months, working out; Dillon Gabriel, as far as he's aware , has not. @ESPNNFL

@LanceReisland There’s a difference between losing a qb completion and having your owner place the qb as the starter. Which is once again what haslam is forcing. He absolutely thought Watson was out for 2026 which is why they drafted the way they did. Now he has to renege

I don’t hate it. I actually think it’s a sign of progress. If Shedeur Sanders plays, it’s because he earned the job, not because it was handed to him. That’s how it should be. Competition brings out the best, and if he wins it, that’s good for him and the future of the #Browns.
John Brayer@JohnBrayer

@LanceReisland @thedawgspodcast Browns see Watson as best chance. Everything they are doing is telling you they are looking to soften the blow to public when he named QB1. I hate everything about it personally.

@thedawgspodcast @BrownsNationcom The Browns problem is they have no confidence in any QB they recruit or draft. They had 42 since 1999. It's the coaching staffs fault. Sanders is a good QB and with great coaching he can be great.

Chris Oldach says if Deshaun Watson wins as the starter, it could silence critics, noting that Browns fans ultimately respond to results rather than past controversies. "Can I say this, though, about Deshaun [Watson]? I don't think it's going to work, but if it somehow does work, great. All Browns fans want is a winner. When Watson was initially brought in five years ago, everybody hated him. There was all this uproar, and guess what? He had that really good half against Baltimore, went 14 of 14, comeback win, and everybody said, 'Okay, we've got our guy.' The point being is ig Watson ends up being the starter and he wins, people aren't going to care. Bottom line, people won't care." (via @ESPNCleveland)

@DDris87709 @PatMcAfeeShow @AdamSchefter Why not? All of the money is already sunk, they waste a year of a rookie with potential, they waste the 1st season of a new coach, and they AGAIN start the season with 3 QBs all of which will play this year and ruin yet another season.

If Watson is the Week 1 starter, it’ll be 693 day span from his last appearance in his NFL game. He was overcoming a shoulder injury at that point and since, he had two ruptured Achilles injuries. Not to mention he had a near 700 day absence from the field from Jan 2021 to December 2022 Seeing him return to the level of play he was at six years ago seems like a very major pipe dream #Browns
Ari Meirov@MySportsUpdate

#Browns owner Jimmy Haslam, on Deshaun Watson’s 2026 potential, referenced what Sam Darnold recently did: “There are a lot of quarterbacks who—it seems to be kind of the theme in the NFL—either started or did not start well and then take their team to a Super Bowl championship, right? And what a great story that is for Sam Darnold. Deshaun started great, and the year before we signed him, he was rated the second-best quarterback in the NFL. And then the suspension and the injuries and all that piled up. Can he come back from that? He certainly had the ability at one point in time, and we’re cautiously optimistic. But we’ll see.” (via @beaconjournal)

Nobody cares how much 4 is making this season. We just want it to be over. He hasn’t played well in years. We just want it to be over. It’s nothing personal. I didn’t want the trade anymore than he did. A swing and a miss? It’s been more like a act of God

@Eddie1Fastest @thedawgspodcast @TheKardiac_Kid So browns fans watched a veteran Watson miss easy throws, move worse than Flacco, and pout all over the field and find that more acceptable than a rookie struggling? Y’all realize they were hot trash with Watson right?
