I'm teaming up with @lbeckste & @cwynar for an ICA panel proposal exploring podcasting as a visual medium. (ICA's in Denver, CO next year, June 12-16.) If anybody's got a paper idea that might fit in, please reach out! We'd love to have you join us.

@PabloVidalRibas @ktaylor Exact same situation for me in Comm and Media Studies. I’m not the most prolific researcher, but I’ve published in some top venues and could do more than the handful of reviews I’m asked to do most years. I think journals need to work harder to cultivate strong reviewer bases.

I am editor in a journal. The last time a reviewer accepted my invitation to review was June 29. Currently, I have a ms with 22 invitations (I´ve had more), none accepted. Is it just me? Am I the only one reviewing ms for everyone else? (And yes, I came here to complain)

@SensCentral The young(ish) core is not good enough to compete at the highest level, especially without elite coaching (Green is not it). The absolute ceiling for this team is making the playoffs but even that will be difficult. I sure hope I am wrong about all of this, btw.

Music in Orbit now has a webpage on the @ucpress website and can be pre-ordered through a few sources (though the option to order from the press directly is still to come). ucpress.edu/books/music-in…

@DrLMRobinson Two things: 1) Many small US colleges are in deficit these days as they struggle with enrollment & retention. 50K may be all they can offer. 2) 50K may not be so bad depending upon the location. My first TT job paid 48K and I was doing better than friends making 75K elsewhere.

@SimmerDownCIH Not with GK salaries behind their peers, the rising cap, and the number of UFA years the deal would encompass. If I'm Swayman, I'm not taking anything less than 10M (ideally 11) on any deal of 4+ years. Also, let's not forget that guys like McAvoy are making 9.5/yr...

And just like that a career of 16 years has finished. All i have worked for since i was 10 is now just a memory. Paris-Chauny was my last race as a Pro. But like always, the end of one thing is the beginning of something new. Looking forward to discover new challenges.

@imwithpulp Thank you, Mark. Glad you enjoyed your time here. The show on the 10th was phenomenal. We so appreciated you coming and giving us the chance to see you that many of us never thought we'd have. Best of luck with the rest of the tour.

@TSPSimmerDown Of course. They’re just workers at the end of the day and have so little control over their initial working conditions. Why not try to obtain a move if one is unhappy and has any leverage at all? Most of us would do the same in such a situation.

@GraemeNichols The four-year deal provides some security, but Green's lack of success as a HC thus far (just one winning season) means there will be some immediate pressure. There is nothing in his history to suggest that extra patience is warranted and this market has suffered for a long while

Curious how much pressure Travis Green feels before entering the season. The young core has been here for a few years. Jacques implored the group to improve team defence and that needs to continue. Need to convince Ullmark to stay too.

@pourfairelevide Appropriate reading amounts and materials always depend upon one’s institution and the specific course context. Having said that, this seems like a ton, even for upper-level Ivy UGs. FWIW, I assigned a lot early in my career and been reducing and have been reducing ever since.

600 pages of reading per week (especially if most of those pages are from novels) is totally reasonable for full-time college students. That’s less than 100 pages per day. If a college student can’t read 100 pages per day without cheating they should not be in college.
ocean man@weenreeno

@pourfairelevide @hadeejasouffle With 3 other courses you end up having around 600 pages of reading to get through a week, plus weekly submissions and essays. You end up not even trying to read the material because there's no way to get through it. You end up just relying on summaries and external resources

@dem8z I hear you, but the organizations with which I am most familiar do need to have conferences each year because the conferences are the primary incentive for members to renew their memberships (applying and then attending). Otherwise, people would just let their memberships lapse.

I'm not anti-Stampede but nightly fireworks at 11 pm is a bit much. How about just playing Happy Trails to You over the grounds PA and everyone knows its time to go?
City of Calgary@cityofcalgary

During the @calgarystampede the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede Ltd. are exempt from the noise restrictions outlined under the Community Standards Bylaw. Peace Officers will be monitoring sound levels at all tents & venues To learn more about noise exemption permits, click ⬇️

@FromPhDtoLife If I knew for certain, I might have had a better chance of mastery :) That said, I think it's about imposing a rigid time-blocking structure (in a compassionate manner) and then sticking with it. Also requires effectively breaking big tasks into tiny bites as a precursor.

100%. I think this is due to players playing too much football, tourny fields being expanded too much, and many teams adopting extremely conservative tactics. In recent years, the most interesting major tournament matches have been in the early rounds, IMO.
Carlo Garganese@carlogarganese

Euro 2024 is the worst quality Euros or World Cup in my lifetime All the big teams except Spain & Germany have been unwatchable Where’s the superstars, attackers, dribblers, patterns of play? Football has declined massively last 20 years Players (robots) are fitter, that’s it
