The extreme measures we take to keep people alive in ICU has been hard on me and I just started.

@AMLinehan @CraneBeachMass Really frightening that so many people have experienced this. My aunt pulled my brother out of a wave pool when we were kids. She was the only person who noticed. My swim coach pulled my teammate out when he started drowning AT A SWIM MEET. I'm glad you & your daughter are ok.

Today at @cranebeachmass my 9-year-old daughter nearly drowned while I was watching her, in full view of two life guard stations, on an uncrowded and overcast day. Drowning doesn’t look like drowning, and I hope a lot of people read this and remember the signs. 🧵

What if “learning to live with COVID” meant learning to live with basic precautions like masks and enhanced air handling rather than living with repeated infections until your long-term health is threatened?

@chelseakenna @karenlubell @gretchemaben I have EDS/POTS/MCAS/central hypersomnia. Avoided covid until 2 months ago. When I had it I wasn't the sickest I've ever been, but the tachycardia and fatigue were rough. That said, I was back to baseline within a month. Ymmv, but I hope that helps.

@karenlubell @gretchemaben Does she have EDS? Trying to keep an eye on how it’s going for folks with EDS as I can’t get a clear answer on how worried I should be still even at 3x vaccinated. 😞 I’ve been playing it safe. (And I know the answer may just be “we don’t know, depends on the patient”)

To be clear, as a young relatively healthy person currently in the ICU with COVID, I despise this. The CDC’s guidelines should be based on science and not politics or societal desires. Do better. You are killing people. 💔

BREAKING: CDC guidelines have been revised and COVID rules have been relaxed. The new guidance lifts the requirement to quarantine if exposed to the virus, deemphasizes screening people with no symptoms and updates COVID-19 protocols in schools. n.pr/3zPnuyW

@surphs__upp @msemilymccombs Legit curious—does same/same refer to feelings of inadequacy re: not fitting in any clothes from the plus sized stores/department? (I was solidly a jr size 11 and only felt shame when confronted with the 5-7-9 type stores, never those where smallest size was 14)

@msemilymccombs I was an 11 by their sizing and am pretty sure that store alone made a hefty contribution to my disordered eating and body dysmorphia from age 11/12 on

@ClaudetteGGibs1 Today is my son's birthday. He's been gone longer than he was here. The night he died I told him I loved him and he didn't have to fight any longer and I was there with him. He died shortly after and my heart broke into a million pieces, but I'm thankful he wasn't scared

Nurses Against Dick Pics. 🪷🇺🇦
Often times when at the bedside of a dying young person, people sob uncontrollable. I was in awe of this mom that told her daughter how she loved her and reassured her that it was okay to die. How she, in the deepest distress, reminded her daughter of her accomplishments. 😥❤️😥

@DervishWaking @gretchemaben Sounds better than the Ohio vegetarian meal I got at a wedding 15 years ago: boiled broccoli in a styrofoam take-away box

"Do you nurses think you're equal to us?" I have some really bad news for MDs that carry this metaphorical bucket of slop with them. There's a reason why you view/treat nurses as lesser. The prestigious house of medicine was built upon a foundation of misogyny and racism.

@CirclingBear "if you know, you know" which in this case means "having been called fat by strangers who had no cause to interact with me, I understand the op's actions without additional info and imagine others do, too"

@theeyecollector Hi Hannah. When viewed dispassionately, the way you present this verbal exchange & your response to it, seem disproportionate; however is there more to your interaction with the driver that motivated you to seek ‘revenge’ in this way?

@sammyrigaud My aunt taught K-1 in Detroit. First day one of her K students jumped out the window and started running home. She jumped out after him!

First day of school… one kid ran away from me, another peed on himself and one girl wouldn’t look at me because she doesn’t want a “boy teacher” 🙂🙂

I can tell they’ve had pronoun training at my hospital because the check in guy said “Sir, over here. Oh! No, uh, they?” And the lady at the next cube said, “No gendered honorifics or antiquated respectability phrases, KEVIN!!!!”
