Drivers operating under the ride-hailing platform inDrive staged a peaceful protest in Chitungwiza on Monday, gathering at a local football pitch to demand fairer fares amid rising fuel and maintenance costs. Dozens of drivers parked their vehicles in a coordinated demonstration, saying current pricing is no longer sustainable. The drivers said increasing fuel prices in Zimbabwe have put pressure on their operations, while fares on the platform have remained largely unchanged. Under inDrive’s system, passengers propose fares that drivers can accept, reject, or negotiate. However, drivers claim many passengers consistently offer prices that are too low. “We can’t continue like this,” one driver said. “Fuel is going up, maintenance costs are rising, but the fares customers offer are still too low. It’s no longer business, it’s survival.” The protest remained calm, with drivers holding discussions and sharing experiences while considering ways to push for better pricing. The situation reflects wider challenges in Zimbabwe’s transport sector, where operators face rising costs for fuel, spare parts, and daily living. Drivers are now calling on both passengers and the company to ensure pricing that allows them to sustain their livelihoods.

There are some InDrive wars going on around Harare. Some drivers who accept very low fares are being sent fake ride requests by other InDrive drivers. When they arrive at the pickup location, they find no customer. Instead, they receive a message warning them to stop accepting very low fares.

Doha has officially run out of patience. After weeks of trying to broker a ceasefire, the expulsion of Iranian military and security staff follows a direct ballistic missile hit on the Ras Laffan Industrial City. Qatar has spent a decade as the middleman between Washington and Tehran, but you can’t play mediator when the "partner" is targeting your primary energy infrastructure. This move signals a total collapse of Gulf diplomacy and leaves Iran with zero friends left on the Arabian Peninsula.

The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) has announced a sharp increase in fuel prices for March 2026, a move driven by rising global oil costs linked to escalating tensions and conflict in the Middle East. Diesel, which had been selling at US$1.77 per litre just two weeks earlier, now stands at US$2.05. Petrol has climbed from US$1.71 to US$2.17. For ordinary Zimbabweans, already stretched by a fragile economy, the numbers are not just figures on paper, they are the difference between survival and hunger as public transport costs will go up too from tomorrow. Behind these increases lies a war far from Zimbabwe’s borders but deeply connected to its economy. The Middle East remains the heart of global oil supply, and any instability there immediately disrupts production, shipping routes, and insurance costs for tankers. As tensions rise, fewer vessels are willing to pass through risky corridors, premiums surge, and supply chains tighten. The result is that oil becomes more expensive on the international market. Zimbabwe, like most African countries, imports all of its fuel. That means it does not control the price. Even when government tries to cushion citizens through subsidies or reduced charges, as ZERA indicates, the pressure catches up. A war thousands of kilometres away is dictating the cost of transport, food, and production in Zimbabwe. That is why it is foolish to cheer on the reckless war.
