@nikitabier Interestingly, Telegram doesn’t have recommendations or anything like that, but it works in a similar way. On it, you’ll only follow content that interests you and be part of a community in your own language

I’ve seen a few people promote a theory that if X brings in new communities (e.g., women, vloggers) that it will somehow damage their community’s experience.
This is categorically false: the Timeline algorithm serves tons of niches that you never see. Growth of new audiences will not pollute your Timeline (and if it does, that is a failure of the algorithm and we will fix it).
X is for everyone and the product only gets more resilient and more relevant when more people are on here.

It even introduced E2E-encryption in chats before Signal came along. So it’s hard to compete with TG; it’s been constantly improving its features for years

Telegram has end-to-end encrypted chats, and this feature was introduced before many competitors. I don’t get why people download a separate app for something Telegram has. If you need E2E-encryption, use Secret Chats. There’s no need to install a separate app for that feature

We’ve upgraded Telegram’s anti-censorship protocol. Users in Russia are advised to update their apps to stay connected. Thanks to the Russian people’s Digital Resistance, Telegram usage there remained stable over the past week despite the full ban.

@durov @Proton_Pass This explains a lot about Telegram - you don’t even try to do both because it’s hard. WhatsApp provides end-to-end encryption by default for 1-1 and group messages, we support multiple devices, voice and video calls. We have end-to-end encrypted backups too.

Some other advice: stock up on several VPNs/proxies in advance, help your friends and family do the same, and avoid using Russian apps while connected to a VPN (they are reporting your VPNs to authorities for blocking).
